I DONT want to change anything just update the emuNAND. I DONT CARE for other loaders I want to stick with what I have as it works fine for me.

Now, I have a 9.2 OFW N3DSXL. I boot into reinand and have a linked emuNAND on 11.2

All is working fine. IT WORKS SO WHY CHANGE IT? I'm NOT going to change so dont even bother suggesting that.

I want to know can I update the emuNAND to 11.3 or will it brick? I've heard reports of 11.3 bricking emuNANDs and consoles.
I heard the same thing with 11.2 and they were all false reports as 11.2 updated fine.

Is it safe to update to 11.3 on my emuNAND?

Well before people start A9LH masterracing you yes you can....If you are using Luma as your cfw that is,if you are using reinand or rxtools however you will be greeted with a black screen on 11.3 until you go to luma.As for gateway, lets just say its a bad idea to even update with it at all or even use it at this point.Anyways here's the guide if you change your mind https://3ds.guide/

Serious answer: Just switch to luma or skeith, or you can wait for reinand to be updated

Both my 3DS XL and N3DS XL are running on rxTools and ReiNand, respectively. Will updating their NAND to the latest firmware 11.3.0-36 not affect its capability to run backup ROMs installed in it in any way?

I read from somewhere that the latest firmware update somehow patched the 3DS's capability to run the homebrew launcher.

Anyone got a first-hand experience in this matter?

I found and installed luma.
After a few reboots I got it working. It kept black screening or going to sysnand.
I'll backup before updating to 11.3 a if this doesn't work I'll stay on reinand 11.2 as thats faster and works fine for me.

Any reasons why luma is better than reinand? Looks like they both run emunand so any hidden menus or features make it any different?

Same as me. I think my 3dsXL is running reinand if not its also running rxtools. I'll have to update that too soon but there were reports the o3ds updates fine where n3ds do have bricking problems. That was a long while ago, I think thats been fixed in the latest CFWs but still, I prefer to check before updating any of my consoles.

I think the homebrew launcher fix is for sysnand so if your running an emunand it doesn't matter. My sysnand is still on 9.2 so I doubt it'll affect it at all. but an answer from someone who knows better will still be good.

Skeith is A9LH only
Have you tried it on both custom firmware?
You don't need to try them (though people have) They are both based on older NATIVE_FIRMS (RXTools uses 9.5 and ReiNAND uses 10.2,) thus they are blocked out by default with 11.3. 11.3 added a NATIVE_FIRM requirement to the homemenu. If you aren't using the FIRM for 11.3, you aren't getting support.

I have first hand experience with this when I updated with ReiNAND. As well it's been confirmed to have a NATIVE_FIRM requirement.
And yes, it's more than confirmed that you need to update your NATIVE_FIRM and that they don't work

For the OP
Right now ReiNAND is currently working on 11.3 support. There is currently no ETA on the support due to some complications, but it will be released once it's been stabilized.
I honestly suggest ditching the Menuhax build as your setup is growing more and more out of date. You can easily get a more updated CFW and also clean up space with A9LH.

I have a thread for that

Prior to the official Gateway 3DS update, this one:

Today we publish a quick update to fix the OSD issue for Nintendo 11.1 Firmware.
The launcher.dat update is identical for both public beta 4.2 and 3.7.

Please click HERE for pubic beta 3.7 download links
and HERE for public beta 4.2

And as always, until our next update, enjoy
!

I updated my emunand, read: "franken firmware" (cver, nver, eshop, eshop mini applet, friends module.... not sure about home menu but I DIDNT update the N3DS natve firmware and even if I didnt have the latest native firm, I had no OSD issue on GW emunand..... which means, there is a chance that this method would work again (with 11.3). I had to test it, I dont know for sure.....

BTW im always on franken firmwares (I always update the same things..... cver, nver, eshop, eshop mini applet, friends module and sometimes the home menu but ONLY on emunand, my sysnand is still on 9.0 and like I said, I have not tested it yet with the latest 11.3 firmware but I will test it very soon.

Update to Luma3DS 6.6.

To OP, just a bit of advise.
Since 11.3 right now is totally unhackable with NFIRM patch. if you accidently update sysNAND, you're doom.
Any hardmod can't help you hack again until the new arm9 exploit is out.
Hardmods can still help if you have a NAND backup from that console on 11.2 or below.

Yeah, a lot of people are careless, but creating a backup was always like step 1 after downgrading to 9.2.
If that person use A9LH, I agree. But for menuhax users, they moslty don't have a reason to boot Decrypt9 or Hourglass9.
So, most people who use that setting will absolutly won't have NAND backup.
Well, I will include the fact about the NAND backup next time.

HELLO ALL!!

Here is my promise which I mentioned in my previous post on this topic. I can only say that it works as expected..... :grog:

So, basically..... my NEW 3DS XL is on or should I say was on REAL 10.2.0 firmware (yep, no franken firmware, it was a full update trough system settings) and since that firmware I was only updating following things to be able to use Online services (including: eShop - purchases/downloads, Pokebank and Pokemover and online in games):
1. "cver"
2. "nver",
3. "eshop"
4. "eshop mini applet"
5. "friends module"

Now, since the 11.3 came out..... some things are changed, exploits/hacks are blocked etc. BUT the same solution helped me again (I have only updated the following 5 stuff from the 11.3 firmware).

ADVISE :

AS STATED HERE:

http://www.gateway-3ds.com/

DONT UPDATE YOUR NATIVE FIRMWARE OR IN OTHER WORDS WHOLE FIRMWARE TO 11.3 BECAUSE YOU WILL MESS UP YOUR EMUNAND...,Team Gateway has still no real solution for the 11.3 firmware (im talking about the REAL/FULL firmware),
but updating your native firm is not needed, update only those 5 things which I mentioned asnd nothing more.

TL:TR

My sysnand is still on 9.0, Gateway emunand on 10.2.0 (most stuff, expect nver, cver, eshop, eshop, eshop mint, friends module which are on 11.3) aka franken firmware. Everything related to online stuff works great.....

BTW there is one thing, if I launch Pokebank 1.3 on my GW emunand, Pokebank says that it cannot find any save data for my games (including X, Y ORAS and Sun)..... but if I run NTR from homemenu (also, .cia), Pokebank works again BUT prior to 11.3, launching NTR in GW emunand was not necessary (basically, thats the only difference with 11.3 using this EXACT method).
