Only works in Standby i suppose ? or does the Wii U need to be turned on `?

it would only work with the wiiu on as putting it in standby would still clear the alarm from system memory you would also need to turn off auto shut down as that would also put the wiiu into standby after how many hours you have your auto shut down set to in wiiu settings.
