Great, thank you for the help. A few questions now, sorry.
1) What are good or fast ways to make copies of my save files. I only know of save manager that comes with the homebrew starter kit and well I only ever used it for pokemon. I imagine using that for every game might be a problem.
2) What do you mean by source and initial setup? I think I missed something there.

1) On CFW. Use https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/
I use it for everything. Hasn't been a problem for me.

2. Source is the Source 3DS. As in the the 3DS that's content you want to transfer to the Target 3DS. (More details: http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/227/)
And initial setup, well. If you bought a brand new 3DS or did a System Format. Then that's the initial setup. Asking you to test the 3D (o3DS/N3DS), asking for your country, name, etc.

Oh okay I get it, thank you so much! I'll come back if I need anything else ^^

If I format the card for no emuNAND, will my files and downloaded games be lost?

Thank you.

You are right, only the available space can be tested, so it is testing whats left on the sd; sorry for the misunderstanding.

This was the result:

Warning: Only 12316 of 31967 MByte tested.
The media is likely to be defective.
20.1 MByte OK (41280 sectors)
12.0 GByte DATA LOST (25181888 sectors)
Details:0 KByte overwritten (0 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
12.0 GByte corrupted (25181888 sectors)
0 KByte aliased memory (0 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x0000000000000000
Expected: 0x0000000000000000
Found: 0xffffffffffffffff
H2testw version 1.3
Writing speed: 3.86 MByte/s
Reading speed: 2.39 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Thank you.
Yeah looks like your problems are caused by a fake SD card. There's only 20MB left of real space so whenever you try to write a larger file than that it will be corrupted. You'll want to return this card for a refund and get another.

I actually meant for you to backup your stuff first - I thought H2testw would erase your card in order for it to test the whole thing but I guess it doesn't do that.

Well those test results would imply that the SD card is defective either way, so first things first - I'd replace the SD card and see if that fixes your issue.

You can back up your emuNAND and flash it into your sysNAND if you know your emuNAND has saves you want to keep. If your current setup is sysnand and it has the saves then deleting emuNAND doesn't affect anything. I would, however, make a backup of your current setup with Decrypt or Hourglass into a different SD card before you do anything else given that the SD card is defective if the results are to be believed.

Yeah I just need instructions for a semi-restore.
I don't care if Al9H is still installed slightly somewhere.
I just need to restore to stock so a user can use it without issues in a stock like way and would CFW in the future if the user wants that.

Essentially, If I format the sd card, would the 3ds brick?
If the user attempted to system update from a formatted SD card state, would the 3ds brick?

Ideally I'd just like to wipe SD card an return nand to pre-CFW. (I do have a nand backup suggested in the 3DS guide.)

I have my orignal nand backup from the 3ds guide.

Thanks!

Hello guys, I'm buying a second hand 2DS (I'll pick it up from the seller in a couple of days), is there anything I should be wary of? I reckon every firmware can be currently downgraded from, if that is correct I'd only be trying the console to see if all the buttons are working properly. What are some hardware issue I should know about?

I'm planning on following this guide, as I've seen it recommended both here and on Reddit.

Oh, and I guess I'll need an SD card. Which kind would you recommend?

Other than that... check if the 3ds was banned (if possible) and if it has already any kind of CFW and if it is:
if it has any system title modified or even if it has been region-swapped

But I don't know how much info the seller could give you

edit: if you want to install a lot of games, maybe 64Gb would do.
Just do not buy it on ebay, as it is known that there are many fake SD cards over there

The console should actually belong to the son of the guy selling it, and he's including a (crappy) game, so I think I should be safe. I get to try the console before purchasing it, is there any quick check in particular I can make?

I'm probably going to buy a 64 Gb one from amazon, any brand or minimum speed you'd recommend?

Restore your pre-a9lh backup with Decrypt9 and don't choose the "keep a9lh" option.

However you're better off selling it hacked as it would be worth a little more money.

Maybe trying to enter to the eshop to see if you get any error
(this would let you know if the 3ds is banned in a way although there are other kind of bans I think)
Regarding the SD card, I recommend a class10.
I cannot give you any other advice because I don't know too much about brands and stuff, but usually,
if they are not fake, you should be good.
For example, I have this one http://www.gskill.com/en/product/ff-sdxc64gn-u1
I got it for about 24€ from a nearby store and I haven't got any kind of problem.
Even there are people that use microSD+adapter, but I read that it could slow down the data transfers, so a hard SD should be better

A friend of mine wants to buy a 2ds and has asked me to install CFW as I did on my own 3ds. Can someone please confirm that any system version (even 11) can now be hacked? I don't want to give the wrong advice..

Thank you!

I know this question is lazy but the only answer I need is a yes or no:

I have an o3ds xl (4.5 sysnand /11.2 emunand) and a gateway card, I've been thinking on getting a new 3ds but it seems likely that it will be on 11.0.

Can I downgrade my would be new 3ds xl without hardmodding with the help of my o3ds?

What game is it?
I think FAT32 only works with files up to 4Gb

You could try installing it via network with FBI or with freeshop ciangel and similars
