Hacking Supposing there's a system update with BotW, does hacking now "futureproof" my console?

Or are we thinking that the system update will break all hacks, installed or not?
I realize this is purely hypothetical, but I'm curious if being hacked before it comes out will matter much i.e. if current hacks "futureproof" a hacked console through CFWs and whatnot.

If not, I'll just wait and see if I can hack after, I'm buying BotW in the first week anyway.

It would likely break all public hacks but the wii u is dead so i doubt ninty cares about patching exploits.

redNAND might work but no way to test that atm.

I have thought about this. I'd assume that nintendo would fix current exploits with a new update which should render all available hacks useless. Correct me if I'm wrong. In that case I plan on buying a spare Wii U which I'll then update and play an original copy of BotW on (and mybe sell it again when I'm done with the game). This would still be cheaper than getting a switch plus the game and I can keep my original Wii U at 5.5.1.

Since we have EEPROM redirection along with OTP redirection on redNAND, it should be update-able. None of this is pure fact, though.

A couple of years ago I picked up a "console only" on eBay for $100 for exactly this scenario. You can sync the gamepad between the two as necessary. I usually have it set up in my bedroom to play late night MK8 when the wife is out of town on business.

I'll say that we might find out untill Mid February maybe early February. Why? well this will be the last 1st party release for the Wii U, and a Zelda game which means it will probably get leaked to the internet either the full game or just the ticket. If the ticket gets updated to the ticket site with all of its information and if Nintendo upload the game to their servers people are going to be able to download it and either install it with the brazilian method or extract the files from Nus to a Loadiine ready file. When people install this game on their Wii Us before release and try to launch it, it will either run like normal on a 5.5.1 Wii U or either won't run at all or try to pull an update for the Wii U from the servers. And with a Loadiine ready dump of the game we would be able to tell if it will run correctly on Loadiine. You might said that there's no way such game could be easly leaked a couple of weeks before release but it has, heck nintendo was the one who leaked Color Splash 2 weeks before release by accident, Twilight Princess HD was also leaked and people had a Loadiine Ready dump running on the Wii U before release. Even Skyward Sword for the Wii was leaked before the retail release and was up on that Iso site in no time.

Probably the best current method for permanent and completely offline (after the first installation) hack, i.e. CBHC, is based on being on the latest firmware in order to buy the DS title from the eShop.

The moment 5.5.2 is out, and thus required to access eShop, haxchi/CBHC is gone if you haven't already set it up.

Older fw wiiUs could still be updated to 5.5.1 from game disc but no access to eShop-based entry points.

Or so I understand.

So the minute we have any confirmation that a new firmware is coming, we should urge people to update to 5.5.1 and buy a suitable DS title asap.

The proper course of action when BOTW is out is to check the boards, find out if there is an update and take the appropriate course of action if there is which we wont know until it is out.

if you block updates with dns servers, there is nothing that can update your wii u, you can even "spoof" the wii u to the new version and still play online.
the only way you couldnt play Botw with this setup is if it uses some new lib thats only on the new update, even then all you would need to do is dump rednand and update rednand and then play(this could fail and not work BUT it should work)...
keep in mind this doesnt care whether your using cbhc or mocha or anything else.
