There's still more that needs to happen.I say yes, can't wait for team SALT to come out with their solution. Some things will be the same, some things might be better than current solutions.
A lot of people are put off by the multi-hundred dollar price tag of most NAS systems, especially when you consider that they don't have any HDDs when you buy them requiring you then spend another few hundred on the drives for a 1TB RAID.Are there still people that haven't discovered the beauty of a NAS and streaming media? Every time I see this, I am astounded by how many people don't stream any of their media throughout their house. I just say this, because once I start working on a media player for the Wii U, it's doubtful it will even be aimed towards people who plug in a HDD or SD card with media on it, rather it will play media by streaming it from another source.
I have yet to see a good N64 emulator for any system, including PC. That particular scene seems to be very... eccentric. Some things work, some things summon Cthulhu from the Depths.Seriously guys, the Wii U is still way behind from being a fully hacked console.
We still don't have access to the boot keys, so there's that.
We still don't have a proper CFW, ala Luma on 3DS or the PSP CFW, booting directly into an already sig patched FW by actually flashing it into NAND and not relying in an exploit redirection by modifying a system file.
Also, there are still three more things besides those two which I'd like to see on the homebrew side of things:
Bonus: N64/PSX emulation. The Wii U VC injection is quite good right now, but the stupid limitation of not being able to set the image to 16:9 and remove the gamma filter makes the experience less enjoyable for me. I do hope a 16:9/anti-gamma hack for the VESSEL.RPX becomes a thing.
- A full-on Wii U Media player ala WiiMC which reads from SD or USB, streaming too, with mp3, ogg, mp4, mpg, jpg, png, bmp, flv, avi, 3gp, midi, wmv, wma, wav (etc) file support.
- HDD FAT/NTFS native support on the Wii U side so we can still use our HDDs for storage and use it for Wii U/Wii/GC games instead of locking the entire HDD to the Wii U's format only, I like to keep all my stuff in only one drive for convenience sake. This might come with CFW. Also, this alongside the previous point, would make the Wii U a full media center.
- vWii control via the Wii U Gamepad. This is still something we might have yet to see. Gc with Gamepad sounds like a dream, same for Wii CCP games.
So as you can see, the Wii U still has some way to go in terms of hacking.
Just because you have RedNAND and Wii U's miniPasta doesn't mean it's 100% hacked.

So they don't pass the torch so to speak? What's the point of acquiring the knowledge and not allow other developers to do something interesting with it. I can't see what they have to lose by sharing.Hate to break it to you guys but a Salt member posted here a month or so ago and said he was the only person left working on Wii U stuff and the rest of the team had moved onto other things. He also said that he doubts anything they did will ever be released as his work alone is useless without the work of other members and he doesn't have source code for other members work nor does he have permission to release other team members work anyway.
He went on to say that they never promised to release anything and nobody should be waiting on a release from Salt.
Hate to be that guy but I said it all along, groups like Salt don't do this sort of thing to release it, if they do release then its a bonus but they do it mostly because of the challenge and to gain the knowledge.
The kernel sploit is hykems work.i still want to see hykems work ,now the switch is announce shouldnt we see more stuff being shown ?
That is the whole problem with the hacking sceen today back in the early days of hacking systems we never had teams like salt etc what we did have was a load of people all working for a common goal helping each other out and freely sharing information now we have a bunch of teams all working against each other all looking for the glory of being first to a hack a system or to do something better than someone else's work without sharing any info of how they did it they are basically glory hunters who only care about being the first to do something the sceen needs to go back to being about everyone working as one rather than it being about who can be the first or who can do it the best. not saying everyone is like that as we still do have some guys who share info (we all know who) but they are few and far between. If everyone worked together things would happen a lot sooner which can only be good for everyone. So they don't pass the torch so to speak? What's the point of acquiring the knowledge and not allow other developers to do something interesting with it. I can't see what they have to lose by sharing.
Yep, teams like Salt like to attend hacking conventions and stand on stage telling the world they broke IOSU but not telling anybody how they did it.That is the whole problem with the hacking sceen today back in the early days of hacking systems we never had teams like salt etc what we did have was a load of people all working for a common goal helping each other out and freely sharing information now we have a bunch of teams all working against each other all looking for the glory of being first to a hack a system or discovere new things they are basically glory hunters who only care about being the first to do something the sceen needs to go back to being about everyone working as one rather than it being about who can be the first or who can do it the best.
I just don't get why anybody would spend months/years working on a project just to keep it hidden away. It makes no sense at all to me.
I get your point about the legal side of things but the hacks should be made in private then brought out with no names of the devs attached no team names etc then uploaded from a Internet cafe or something thus making it near impossible for Nintendo to track down who created the hack or uploaded it. attaching your name to things is just asking for trouble. What they are doing is basically like if I where to rob the local bank then post on their website a message like hey my name is Mark Wither and I just stole a shit load of money from you.Yep, teams like Salt like to attend hacking conventions and stand on stage telling the world they broke IOSU but not telling anybody how they did it.
Playing devils advocate for a second, on one level I do get it. I mean ignoring the glory hunters claim (I don't buy that) just take a look at what's happened to some of the people who released stuff for current gen consoles. The guys behind the PS3 hack were publicly C&Ded by Sony, the Wii U key disappeared without a trace and Smea (or maybe Hykem, can't remember now) was apparently spoken to by some fancy lawyers over his PS4 cryptography work so releasing this stuff (heck even working on it at all) can be dangerous, especially given how vigorously Nintendo use courts and laws to protect their property but on a personal level I just don't get why anybody would spend months/years working on a project just to keep it hidden away. It makes no sense at all to me.
Give it to a friend a tell him to go to an internet cafe and upload it somewhere. Once its out its out and Nintendo don't stand a chance of ever containing it.Yep, same what happened to Pokémon Prism. I heard he worked 8 years on it? **** it, I'd just release it without caring about copyright issues. 8 years of hard of work thrown in the bin, so legit reason to **** the copyright laws.
I must admit that I would try to release it secretly ^^
oh gawd why would you do that to a n64 gamebut the stupid limitation of not being able to set the image to 16:9
