That was odd. I switched to 2.09 after having used 2.08, they are in different folders on my PC, and although the home menu combo works (select+down), it somehow went back to the old font that had missing letters. I flashed again to be sure I did in fact have it checked in the menu, still the old font. I decided to drop back to 2.08 and flash the same setup, thinking I would lose the select+down combo but gain the proper font back, but strangely I ended up with my custom font AND the reset combo working using 2.08! I'd love an explanation on how that could happen...just weird.

Could it be some files aren't updating or what?

EDIT: I see you added clovercon.ko file to transfer...I guess that file was there still so it worked okay even with 2.08 flash, hmm.

Forget telling one issue.
2.08 cannot output the following characters on game title:
(Use extended font is disabled for displaying Famicom Mini Original 30 Game's Japanese character properly.)
"4"
"j"
"W"
"j" will be automatically omitted.
All the following characters after "4" or "W" will be automatically deleted.

BTW, Dragon Quest 3 & Dragon Warrior 3 are actually playable. (The unplayable issue was caused by a bad dump.)
Final Fantasy I & II (J)'s FF2 part is still unplayable. Final Fantasy II (J) has no problem.

OK so I was getting a c8 error on 165 roms with all boxart and no thumbails, and hiding original 30. the games played fine but would get this message everytime I go to shutdown, i would also have to push power 2 more times to get an actual proper shutdown. so I started backing down my total rom count and reflashing the system to test in increments of 5. basically I got down to 120 games before the system error stopped happening on every shutdown. I think the theory that there are 241 or 242 total image memory banks is pretty accurate if each game takes 2 slots 1 for game and 1 for box art, because once I would add 2 saves to the 120 roms the error would come back...
This is what I've been trying to track like a hawk. But I don't think the games themselves take up those hypothetical 242 slots. Just box art, thumbs, and save slots. I think the number of games is somehow partially tied to a different metric. The number I've seen referenced as a max for games (and to also be able to load some box art and have a decent amount of save states) is around 97.

Aww, I think the PNG compression may have gone too far, now some of the box art looks fuzzy/artifact-y.

Hrm

I just tested and I think you are correct. It was noticeable on some of the classic Nintendo covers like Kung Fu and Ice Hockey. I flashed back to 2.08 and they were better, so I kept those covers and then upgraded back to 2.09 again in order to get the clovercon feature, etc. I think the compression should be set back to the prior values until we know more about how box art image size affects the storage we can actually utilize on the console.

Did anyone's font break like mine did with 2.09? Letters like j and certain numbers all stopped showing, but 2.08 seems to flash the font file every time. Maybe the false/true flag in 2.09's config file is backwards? Also, is it normal that 2.08 flash didn't remove my in-game reset mod? That still works.

Can someone please help me. I've looked everywhere, tried everything and no luck.

I have a Famicom mini. The soft mod works great and all but the games I really want to play again are

Wai wai world 2

Star Wars (J) namco

Holy Diver

Kid Dracula

But it says the mappers aren't supported. I'm so confused because I saw someone on YouTube with Famicom games on their NES Classic and here I have an actual Famicom and the games won't run. Someone please help.

I'm running the latest version of hackchi2

Any help would be appreciated

Are you using NES Mini or Famicom Mini? It's disabled at all for Famicom Mini now.

Seems like I need to return it back... But I still need some Japanese font.

Same question - NES Mini or Famicom Mini?

I'll make it optional.

I want to add that it sometimes feels like I'm nitpicking a Picasso painting when I post certain questions and/or feedback here. That might be a slight exaggeration, but I really feel the work you have done (and continue to do) is art. At the very least, it's brought me a great deal of joy and excitement. I intend to send you a little something, but for now really just wanted to thank you for being a cool dude.

Famicom Mini. I didn't know you disabled it, why is it necessary to disable that now (since it's already an option you can set)?

Things are basically okay with my setup now, though, I doubt I'll change it again for a long time.

I have to echo the other poster, I don't mean to criticize too much. I was just confused at first. Great program!

Sorry. Some Famicom Mini users reported problems with custom font. I thought that they confused using it.

I'll release tiny update soon (in 2 hours).

2.10: https://github.com/ClusterM/hakchi2/releases/tag/2.10

This is tiny update based on recent user requests:

  • Press Shift+F5 to update all your ROMs library info using database.
  • Extended font working on Famicom Mini again.
  • Now you can select button combination for reset.
  • Some FDS improvements: correct cover size, automatic header fix, "--fds-auto-disk-side-switch-on-keypress" argument by default.
  • 8bit PNG compression is optional now since image quality is not so good.
  • Now you can remove thumbnails at the bottom of screen (via settings menu).
