I know I'm repeating myself but just wait for Dimok's Wii U Mocha CFW FAT32 USB support and put everything one a single drive -> profit.
That isn't such a simple fix for me, since I don't use FAT32 as my big partition. I have all my backups in Raw ISO format for the greatest compatibility, as well as allowing me to tinker on the PC, and most of my Wii ISO files are larger than 4GB, and at least 3 are @8 GB. So, I use NTFS for the Wii backup partition.

For that matter, I rather detest the FAT32 partition format, even more than FAT16. The only format I've ever disliked more than FAT32 was a proprietary encrypted format I had to use for a certain job.

I suppose that, once it comes out, I'll consider it, but I'm currently using more than 1TB of data across the 2 drives, which are only 1TB drives, and I don't really want to buy another drive for the Wii U when I've only just bought these in the last 2 months.

Edit: I doubled my numbers for some reason.

I am using USB Loader Gx Rev 1262 on Wii and I can not get Wiiware games to load through Emunand on my HD. I made an Emunand dump using Usb Loader setting “Dump Nana -> Everything”. The paths and other settings I am using are listed below.

Custom Paths
Nand Emu Path USB1:/nand/
Nand Emu Channel Path USB1:/nand/

Loader Setting
Nand saves Emulation OFF
Nand Chan. Emulation Full

I have only been able to get Adventure Island the Beginning Wiiware game to fully work. I was able to get Blaster Master Overdrive to partially work. I am able to play blaster master but the game freezes once the Home button is selected.

I have tried the following Wiiware games and they all get stuck on a black screen and the wii remote will shut off. I have to reboot the wii once I get the black screen. I have tried different WAD files of the same game as well as different IOS when booting the games. They all give be a black screen.

Excite Bike World Rally
World of Goo
FAST Racing League
Arkniod Plus
Tetris Party

Everything I have seen online state that these games should work on the IOS’s I have loaded. I can not figure out why they will not work. Am I missing an option somewhere? I have also tried creating an Emunand dump on my SD card then reloading the games. This also gives me the same results, a black screen.

I have loaded the WAD’s with Showmiiwads and get the same results. I have also tried to set up NEEK using the procedure in post #21483. This also gives me a black screen and it does not look any different just a black screen so I’m not sure if this is even working.

I believe the Emunand dump is correct since I have multiple VC games from Sega Gensis, SNES and N64 loaded on the Emunand dump and they are all working. Please help I have tried everything I could think of and everything I could find online. Nothing I try makes any difference. They all give me a black screen when trying to load Wiiware games. Thanks in advance.

I finally figured out what was going on with my Wiiware games. It ended up being my emunand that was created from USB loader gx. I used modmii to create an nand dump and all is working fine. Not sure if there is something installed on my wii that causes issues when making a emulated nand from usb loader. Thanks everyone for all the help and pointing me in the right directions.

I have one last question. Now that I have a freshly built emulated nand is there a way to copy over my save files from my emulated nand that I have been using? Are the save files stored in a specific folder that I can copy over?

Saves are stored in the title's folders in the NAND. There are 3 parts to a title in NAND:
/tickets/titileid.tik <- The eCommerce ticket for the title
/title/########/titleid/content <- the dol and resources for the title
/title/########/titleid/data <- the title's stored data (saves)

The "########" is the folder for what kind of title it is like channel, unremovable channel, WiiWare, VC, or IOS.

IOSes generally put their binaries in /shared1 with a small stub in the /title/.../content folder.

I copied over the tile and tickets folders to my new emulated nand. When I start any original wii games it looks like only the DLC is there but not any game saves or game progression. Am I missing something?

You can use either the built-in option to copy saves to your emuNAND folder in USB Loader GX or use Savegame Manager GX, too. Both are a lot easier than trying to copy the folders manually.

Nah, the files are missing from the server, and the Loader is just running through a list that's been archived. It's sort of like when using WinZip and you tell it to skip existing files, it still parses the file in the archive even though it doesn't extract it.

Nearly all the missing files are the custom, or better said "fan," art covers that are no longer up there. My buddy has EVERY VC and WiiWare title on his Wii, and like my own set, the only titles that don't have covers are Homebrew and Star Parodier.

thanks, again @MasterZoen. any ideas where to get these… in bulk?

Do you mean the covers that are missing? They likely don't exist anywhere anymore. You might be able to find a few of them on some art sites, but I'd have no idea where to do that. It doesn't really make any difference, as I said, since my buddy has literally every WiiWare, VC, GameCube, and Wii title released in the USA, and is currently spending a lot of money on the Wii U titles, and regardless of how you showcase the titles the only game missing a cover is Star Parodier along with the Homebrew titles. Of course, he only has NTSC-U titles, so I can't say about PAL or NTSC-J.

Hi All,

I am having a few problems getting USB Loader GX to find my HDD.

My setup:
Wii U 32GB (vWii)
USB Loader GC Version 3.0 r1226
Western Digital My Passport 2TB HDD (formatted using BOOTICE), Stealthed.

My main purpose for using vWii is to play some old Gamecube games I have and then maybe some Wii games at a later date.

I started off my adding all my .iso files to the HDD in the following format:
x:\games\game name [title ID]\game.iso (as required by Nintendont)

So before trying to get USB Loader GX to work, I thought I would check in Nintendont to make sure I could access/boot games etc, which I can.

But for some reason USB Loader GX won't find my HDD.

I had issues when originally getting the HDD, as the Wii U wouldn't give it enough power, so I know use a USB Hub that plugs into the mains (instead of the Y cable), but the vWii HDD is the only one connected to the hub, does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of my issues?

If you need anymore information, just let me know.

Thanks,
Vel

Update your loader first. The current revision is 1262. (link)

Self-powered drives need the extra power from the Y cable. You can plug the power part into a cell phone USB charging plug if you don't want to take up an extra port.
I don't think USB drives work when connected to a hub, only direct port.

Also try disabling the UStealth and see if it gets detected.

Thanks, I have updated the version based on the link you provided. This didn't make any difference.

I also disabled UStealth, but the drive still wasn't recognised.

I know that it needs the extra power, but the Western Digital drives have the bespoke connection so it's harder to pick up a Y cable for them.

The HDD used to click when connected to the Wii U (Not enough power), but that no longer happens, and the HDD (which is identical) I use for my Wii U backups works fine through the hub, as does Nintendont.

Are you suggesting using the powered hub is a limitation of USB Loader GX?

Thanks,
Vel

some hubs work but there is no guarantee.
If you are not going to run Wii backups, try setting ULGX to boot from ios58, that might fix the detection problem and you can run GC games that way (Nintendont uses ios58 too)
But you will need a cios (usually slot 249 with d2x v52 base 56/57) to run Wii backups and that probably isn't compatible with your hub/HDD

Thanks for that mate, I do already have cios249 installed, I remember doing it while following the vWii ultimate hacking guide that was on this site.

To check to see if that is the issue, how do I modify ULGX to boot from ios58?

I'm not sure what you mean by "bespoke" here, as the definition for that word is "custom made to order" and all the USB 3.0 My Passport drives should use a USB 3.0 micro-b connector the same as the Samsung Galaxy S5, not something custom made.

Edit: Check this site to see what the connector is.

Edit 2: Unless your drive uses the A Type connector then this cable should work for your drive. It's the one I use for my drives.

In the /apps folder edit the meta.xml file where it says to uncomment it for arguments then change this line - "<arg>--ios=250</arg>" to "<arg>--ios=58</arg>".

I dusted off the old Wii and was going through all my physical games to make sure I had ripped them all.

I noticed that one game wasn't ripped, Resident Evil 4.
I decided to rip using the install function in USBLoaderGX it but it keeps hanging at 0.16%.

I have installed several games in the past with no issues.
Running around 20-30 games installed present no issues.
The game plays fine from the disc (or so it seems to be when going through the intro).

I read this thread and thought it applied: https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx-stuck-installing-games.371155/
I switched the loader from 249 to 58, but it stalled at the same spot.
I also tried clearing the cache in USBLoaderGX.

USBLoaderGX Version 1262.
Drive is a USB3.0 256GB PNY drive.
SysCheck below.

Any advice?

Try ripping it to SD instead. Flash drives are very flaky on the Wii and even ripping to HDDs fails sometimes. CleanRip may also work better than the built-in one.

I will try that- don't currently have a large enough SD card though- the disc shows 3.97GB needed.
Alternatives to trim size for the install - or aside from SD card?

thanks, again, @MasterZoen:

well, i feel silly. a little bit of googling and click-throughing got me to:

http://www.gametdb.com/Wii/Downloads#cover_packs *

* - isn't this where usbloadergx… looks?

and, from what i can tell, they're all (mostly) here.

any ideas how/where to put them on the sd card?

edit:
spoke a bit too soon: it's 3/5's of what i seek:
• covers
• 3d covers
• discs
_ not banners
_ not the other (can't remember what it is)

edit 2:
thanks, @John_Ice, completely missed your reply
