The problem is not (only) wrestling but more this sentence.

This is what sparked negativity (though yeah, if it was about the Switch, there would be more people who would find the piece of news interesting). Because non wrestling-fans have no clue who Kurt Angle is and what the Hall of Fame's requirements are so... ok? They added some random new guy in and everyone is supposed to find that earth shattering? Sorry, I don't.
I mean, if the original post said something like "even though he killed 64 people" or "and that's the first time someone enters the HoF in 64 years" or whatever, we could agree this is earth-shattering (though we would still not care), but right now no, we can't.
Well I'm not saying its earth-shattering either. While a lot of people are at least aware of the WWE, and may recognize some of the iconic "faces" of the business, I can guarantee that unless you watched any of the sport, you wouldn't have any idea who Kurt Angle is

OP is understandably excited, and anyone who actually is a fan is probably excited, too. It's just a little sad to me to see people quick to bash it. If I don't care about wrestling, I don't think I would open this thread in the first place, let alone leave a comment. Just like if I saw someone make a thread about something I could care less about, I'm not gonna go in the thread and voice negativity towards the OP just because I'm ignorant about it or don't like or care for it

Oh well I guess. Freedom of speech and all that I suppose

Yes and no. Indeed, no idea why we clicked lol. But then, once we clicked, if the first post didn't explicitely wrote "you should all care about this piece of news" and moreover without expliciting why we should, less people would answer "nope, you're wrong, I don't care". That's why you see me post in that thread and not in threads about the PS Vita (which I don't care about either), because there is no PS Vita thread that tells me I should care without reasons.

I'll take this as wrong use of the word "explicit" as that would mean the OP wrote verbatim that "you should all care about this piece of news," which he didn't, rather that it's "earth shattering news" for wrestling fans and non-fans. Did he imply that everyone should care? Probably. I actually thought about the post itself and figured he probably didn't reach the jaded wrestling fan status that most people on the internet have (including myself), and he spoke excitedly without thinking about a negative response to his words. Pretty much innocently and happily posting this bit of positive news, which also fits with him being a newbie in the forum (despite joining last year). While it can be justified why some people here reacted negatively to the bit of news, how about just ignore it and let the people that care, celebrate? I wanted to do that, go into a retrospective, a tribute to Kurt Angle because he's in my top 10 of favorite wrestlers, but now I have no desire to.

Where am I. I thought this was a vidya board
You're in the General Off-topic Chat board, a board dedicated to topics other than vidya.

Walking into threads only to post that you're not interested is a dick move.
On the other hand OP poked the weasel by claiming the news were "Earth-shattering" when it was mildly interesting at best.

Yeah, probably a wrong use sorry. He did not write that sentence exactly like this, but that's what his sentence means (I mean, "earth-shattering" and "for wrestling fans and non-fans", that means "everyone should care").

And really, I have no problems letting people celebrate if they care, that's your hobby and not mine (and I mean, I spent a lot of time on graphing calculators (which people who know me outside of this website may know) so I'm not someone who judges others' hobbies)...

But if I'm told I should care, I'd like to know why. Is it "just" because getting someone in the HoF isn't something that happens often? If that's so... well yeah, I still don't care, but if that had been in the first post, I would have read that piece of information (or make that "not read a piece of information that says I should care" if you want), thought "no, I don't care actually" and closed the tab (which would have allowed the ones who cared to celebrate indeed). Instead, I wondered why I should care so I scrolled down looking for information, and found other (more negative) people who don't seem to care more, and then someone complained about them so I explained why they react this way.

If that's really "just" something for WWE fans, well sorry about all this fuss that prevents you from celebrating, but the OP shouldn't have written (verbatim or not) that we should all care.

Fair enough, but the point I was making was why not just ignore it? One, because he obviously was very happy with the news and wanted to share it, I get that way with a couple of things, but this thread in particular is an example of why I don't bother and just keep the excitement of some things to myself. Two, he's a newbie, again, joined last year, but clearly doesn't know the scene around here, let the mistake in wording slide just once, he doesn't know any better (at least he's not a newbie pressing for help about "i want hax 3ds"), I'm sure he didn't want it to be a debate about whether everyone should really care about this bit of news. If this was some established, veteran member doing this in a more detailed and explicit way, pushing his opinion and agenda on people stopping by this thread, then that's a major issue. Otherwise, have some milk, chant "You suck" at the right moments when the appropriate song plays, yell out "It's true!" and recite the three I's: Intensity, Integrity, Intelligence. That last sentence is just Kurt Angle references.

Basically in a nutshell, the WWE has a Hall of Fame ceremony every year. They pick a small handful of people, no more than 10 a year, and induct them. Usually the people inducted are legends of the business or celebrities who have appeared on their programming. Very rarely do they induct "younger" guys like Kurt Angle, as most who are inducted are retired or are planning to retire

Kurt left the WWE in 2006 to wrestle in another promotion, TNA/Impact Wrestling. From then on the WWE basically blacklisted Angle acting like he didn't exist while he was working with the competition, as well as working the independent circuit. Kurt had a bunch of drug problems he dealt with for a majority of his career, and he finally got better. He's been in talks with the WWE for quite some time now but last I heard they couldn't agree on a deal. It seems they finally agreed on something

Earth-shattering? Hell no, but its definitely a nice surprise for fans. It's literally the last person anyone would've ever expected to get inducted. Truthfully the WWE Hall of Fame is a complete joke with no real merits whatsoever. But what the hell, I'm a fan and I eat this stuff up :D

After Randy Savage, I can see that. For a long time it was Randy Savage as the last person anyone would've expected to get inducted and he finally got in. I think in 2015, yeah, Sting headlined last year. For non-fans, maybe it's interesting to note that the soon to be sworn-in President of the United States, Donald Trump, is also a WWE Hall of Famer. Yeah, and his induction moment was funny because everyone booed him, this was 2013, in New York City no less.

I answered that point in my previous post :P
But I actually think now there is another problem, which already happened in this thread in these posts with the wrong use for "explicit". Maybe american people can read "Wrestling fan or not, this is earth shattering news" as a way to tell "I'm really happy" but since I'm French, I read "you should care about this" and then I misuse "explicit". Sorry about that too.

In any case, @anthonyplep answered why that's a nice thing too so I understand why someone can be happy enough to post that here. I hope at least that the OP stopped posting here because he managed to celebrate elsewhere.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
