He won a gold medal with a BROKEN FRICKEN NECK! And this is huge because he was pretty much blacklisted from WWE these past 11 years and this all of a sudden came as a huge shock

Pumped up steroid jock breaks his neck (which has a slim chance of survival) and continues to "wrestle"
I wouldn't be surprised is his "injury" is another show element.

Sorry lad, I'm pretty sure you've got the wrong audience here.

Hes not a steroid jock, he hasn't been doing drugs for a while and he's still in good shape. He has recovered a lot of the past couple of years and he can still go

Read the Wiki article. He broke his neck while he was training for the Olympic Games, fractured two vertebrae, then went on to win a gold medal in the 1996 summer Olympics. This was way before his "pro wrestling" career, it wasn't a show element, and while drug testing at the Olypmic games may not have been as strict in 1996 as it is today, I doubt he was a pumped up steroid jock at the time.

EDIT: And the main story here is that he is being recognized by the International Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in amateur wrestling (the real kind), and the WWE hall of fame is just jumping on the bandwagon I think.

Yeah sorry but your statement makes absolutely no sense.

Jimmy Snuka is a likely murderer. Sunny is the porn star. And as for the racists part....well I'm sure there's plenty of em. Plus there's tons of non-elite talent in the WWE HOF. Anyone actually consider Godfather and Koko B Ware HOF worthy?

Hulk Hogan, to name one off the top of my head.
As for this thread, I tried to watch "wrestling" once. I thought watching guys/girls "wrestle" would be hot. Turned out to be pretty boring, so I watched hentai instead. Seemed more real to me.

I'm convinced now to not be so open about my lapsed wrestling fandom in this board, reading the responses so far. For me, this is shocking, I loved Kurt Angle's original WWE run, some highlights in TNA of course. I never understood why he languished in the indies for more than a year or two, that's kind of criminal. I look at the induction more as a signal that he's coming back to wrestle, maybe that will get me back into watching wrestling.

I would like to not get into a debate about drugs and shit, I just want to point out that during the '96 Olympics, Angle had Novacain shots to his neck after it broke. This was knowing about about harder drugs being banned, so all he could use was that, I guess a muscle relaxer, numb up the neck, local anesthetic. At least that's what he said.

OP being a fan I think, remember Kurt's theme? That was classic, I was listening to it a few weeks ago actually. I got into wrestling right around the time he won the World Heavyweight Championship on Smackdown in January 2006, I became a fan of him personally shortly after.

With that, I might not talk too much about wrestling again in this forum.

Which is a shame...I guess? It's just another form of entertainment that a lot of people like when it comes down to it, and I'm genuinely surprised to see so much negativity in the thread about it. I've been a fan for almost 18 years now, and honestly I'm really excited about this. I don't watch the new stuff anymore, but things like this is enough for me to tune in again

The problem is not (only) wrestling but more this sentence.
Wrestling fan or not, this is earth shattering news.
This is what sparked negativity (though yeah, if it was about the Switch, there would be more people who would find the piece of news interesting). Because non wrestling-fans have no clue who Kurt Angle is and what the Hall of Fame's requirements are so... ok? They added some random new guy in and everyone is supposed to find that earth shattering? Sorry, I don't.
I mean, if the original post said something like "even though he killed 64 people" or "and that's the first time someone enters the HoF in 64 years" or whatever, we could agree this is earth-shattering (though we would still not care), but right now no, we can't.

I just hope that we'll see him in a WWE ring again, but since none of the Hall of Famers ever returned to active competition I highly doubt it.

Glad to see that he's still going strong in the indie scene though :)
If you'd like to see him wrestle again, check out WCPW's True Destiny featuring Kurt Angle vs. Alberto el Patron (Alberto Del Rio) on the 12th of February.
