hello got a N3DS 11.2 A9 Luma3DS CFW..

is there a way to prevent the 3ds from downloading firmware update?

  • It is safe to update your system if you update from the system settings after installing A9LH and through a good CFW (like Luma3DS).
Want to confirm above before doing it, thanks.

If you have A9LH and a CFW with FIRM protection such as Luma3DS, you *should* be ok to update if an update comes out. While I find it doubtful that Nintendo will patch A9LH, I can't say for sure they won't release an update that doesn't work with A9LH, at which point you'd be able to restore a NAND backup through A9LH and say, Hourglass9, of a previous version. Basically, keep a NAND backup at any time just in case.

The 3DS will never install the update without you doing so manually.

Usually, it should be safe, but it's best to check here for reports. Each time a new update comes out, a thread is created in which a thorough analysis of the update and its effects are presented.

Whats FIRM protection? is that a setting, app, etc? or by default set on the CFW? thanks

It's built into CFW, most apart from gatewaits sysnand, which if you don't have one don't worry. Blocks Nintendo essentially removing A9LH from your system in a theoretical sense

Luma has it always on, and afaik can't be disabled (well, it IS THE n00b-proof CFW, I guess). Corbenik, for example, doesn't have it on by default, as it's a poweruser/control-oriented CFW, and that must be enabled.
