NOTICE:

It has come to my attention that my old download links and instructions were within the gbatemp rules. I am not linking any actual roms, or full romfs files. I am only linking the individual edited files required to play Rising Sun & Waning Moon. If this is threatened to be taken down once more, I ask that mods first look and tell me why the Nova Sun/Umbra Moon mods do the same and have remained up.

Please ask if you want to upload this elsewhere, or at least give credit back to this post or my twitter.
Lets start off with some context. Currently, pk3DS allows us to edit the trainers and move sets of pokemon within Pokemon Sun and Moon. I decided to go ahead and create a challenge mode of sorts, similar to that of Pokemon Blaze Black/Volt White. Currently editing wild encounters!

Changes:
  • Trial Captains and Kahunas now all have teams of 6 Pokemon.
  • Level curve greatly changed. Team should be in high 70s/low 80s by the end of the elite 4.
  • Trainers have Pokemon not usually seen in Alola.
  • Movesets of weaker Pokemon is finished.
  • Youngster Joey has a top percent Rattata.
  • Wild encounters up until the post game are finished! Have fun everyone!
  • Custom music for post game returning trainers.
  • Almost every Pokemon has access to their hidden ability.

A NOTE ABOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
THE EASIEST METHOD IS GETTING A CFW, DO IT WHILE YOU CAN.
Instructions: (CFW Required for this method. See other method below if you don't have a CFW) I also still need to make the method easier for Pokemon Sun users, sorry!

THINGS YOU NEED:
- Latest nightly build of luma. (Get this through the .cia updater)
- The hack's GARC files (the stuff that actually overwrites the original assets) Get it from the Google Drive link

New and Updated Instructions! About time!

Luma Game Patcher Method:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder titled romfs within luma/titles/(titleID)
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • Make sure "Enable Game Patcher" is checked in luma3ds setup.
  • Start Sun/Moon
Thats it! Easiest way to tell if its working is by starting a new game or checking your Trainer Passport.

FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Layeredfs: (These instructions only apply if you use the Layeredfs files)

The LayeredFS feature allows you to replace RomFS files with files on the SD card for most games. To use it:
  • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
  • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder called romfs in the game's folder.
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • For example, to use LayeredFS with Pokémon™ Sun, make a folder named romfs , put your replacement files in it, then put romfs in 0004000000164800.
FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Todo:
  • Re balance according to feedback.
  • Re balance Pokemon move sets and stats once tools are available.
  • Add in last few Pokemon. (Some starters, legendaries, etc.)
  • Finish documentation on the various changes.

Credits:
  • Creators of the tools pk3DS, extract repack, etc.
  • Drayano, for being a cool guy that's better at hacking than I am
Sellout:
I'm a filthy sellout. Follow me on twitter to know when major updates for the romhack come out. https://twitter.com/KobeRobsahm

If i try to start the game (using the Luma3ds method) it just keeps loading (3ds logo when starting the game)

Any solution for this?

Thanks

I'm going attempt to make a CIA now however I wont be able to test it as I personally play Pokemon Moon and my prefered rom hack is Rising Sun

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can someone PM the romfs for Waning Moon? Then I can dump my Moon then replace romfs and exheader then rebuild.

I thought everything was given on 1st page including romfs....

Can I make a suggestion just to make this Romhack feel a tad more unique? Just came across this Youtuber who makes fanmade Pokemon music, a lot of them happen to be fanmade compositions before the games are even out. Would be interesting to change some of the soundtrack (maybe not all) for these Romhacks to make it even more 'original', and even improve some parts were Gamefreak straight up copy & pasted old theme songs instead of remixing them or giving us a much more recent rendition... *Looking at you Cynthia*

Here's a sample to look at for a Lusamine theme, completely fanmade before the game was even out by Emdasche.

Thought it would be pretty interesting to suggest further changes other than what we currently have in these romhacks to make it further differ from the original releases.. :)

Also, is it even possible through romhacking to be able to remove the outlines for old 3DS systems by just tampering with the actual dump?

Cheers and keep up the good work, really liking what I've tested so far. :)

Oh boy I just woke up time to answer some great questions!

Okay @Kobazco now 4 islands's wild encounter had finished edited,so,may i know next beta v2.0 will have what changelog? What is your next plan?Bcoz you want to keep the storyline as the original games so i don't think there will be much to add on,mostly in beta 2.0 is fixed the trouble or bug in beta 1.0 right?

When the romhack is out of beta, I will have edited a good chunk of Pokemon's move sets and stats. Also theres still a lot more balancing to do and finishing of the post game.

I'll go ahead and upload a romfs for you. I don't suggest others download and use this because its harder to update.

Um I installed the new beta 1.0 but I play sun and it says that I am playing .75 any help here?

I just checked, I did indeed forget to change the version number once again some how. If it says .7.5 you are on the correct version, sorry.

I've actually already put in custom music for Colress and Cynthia lol. I plan on doing it for maybe a few more, but the tracks already in Sun and Moon are already pretty good you know?

Nice! I will have to check the latest build then, I do like the current original soundtrack but I thought it would be pretty awesome to make it a little more different from the original release, especially for people who already played the original game. It would just make the experience feel a lot more fresh for people who want to replay these games but with a few differences, aside from the Pokemon encounter/battle edits. Adds a bit more 'surprise' to the presentation you know? Just a suggestion tho. :P

Keep up the good work regardless! Loving the changes thus far.

Also a repeat of my last post... just wondering if it's possible in general.

Yes, the Outline removal from 3D models in general. From Characters, Pokemon, the Overworld, etc.

There's a code you can use through NTR on New 3DS models (doesn't work on old models due to the game rebooting the system) & Citra emulators.

Wondering if this can be amended or be done directly to the Rom, through Romhacking directly. Just out of curiosity, wondering if it can be done.

This tool should allow you to combine different code.bin files or something together. https://gbatemp.net/threads/batch-tool-to-generate-ips-patches-for-pkmn-su-mo.452178/

Just use the code.bin for the no outline changes if you are on O3ds. Quick google search should pull it up.

Using braindump should work... Maybe you don't have enough space on your SD card. Pokemon Sun/Moon is 3GB

I have a enough space in my card ( more or less 32gb)..
When I open braindump with my games, That makes me a yellow screen (On the bottom screen) and my n3ds glitching (The upper screen stay black and the lower stay yelow..)

Strange... It should work on a n3ds no issues. Is your copy a digital version of the game?

@BigOnYa I had 4.89 hfw on super slim that was great, but when I got a new hard disk I forgot where the guide was and could only find a guide for 4.90 and its resources

@BigOnYa I think another reason to want to update is if the hfw is at the level of the fw

    you can sync trophies

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
