When I first joined, there used to be both GMs and Mods. GMs oversaw the whole forums and the Mods oversaw sections. There also used to be 2 to 3 mods per section, which really helped control the quality of posting on the site.
I've noticed since we've gotten right of the Mods and favor of just having a GM team, the quality of the site has really gone down. I am seeing far more issues coming up with flaming, harassment, trolling, bumping spam, ect. which did happen before, but was always quickly taken care of because we had a big enough staff to do it. But recently it seems the staff here are becoming grossly overworked or simply busy in real life to really dedicate enough time to dealing with these issues. Which is why I suggest we bring back the old Mod team to really delegate those tasks and really have a greater staff presence on the forums. Something to really help make the job easier for everyone, well improving the quality of the site.

Well, I think you would have to fill out a sheet or form or something to see if you're qualified. It's something to say "I can help" but it's another thing for them to see if you guys can help.
I think everyone's post history should speak for itself. It can reveal active times and overall sanity.

-----
Sort of semi-on/off topic:
people jump on n00bz that can't use the search functions
I know there's external search engines, but since the forums won't let you search "how to get a9lh" or "luma 3ds a9lh", we shouldn't get too mad.

Something like that happened with the Bug bounty news

There's some guides posted as stickies.
Not to mention that it only takes like 10 minutes of searching in the 3DS section to get what you're looking for.

GBAtemp's search function isn't all that great. we all know that.
Google does a far better gob and it brings you most of the time here anyway.
Let's see what becomes of this. The temp is a little more open that i remember it to be, that's good, in part. The concern is that it can quickly devolve at any time, moreover when people can get away with harassment.

It's like a "give a man a fish" situation. You can add as many mods as you want but it's not going to stop pokemon sun/moon ban floods of users, stupid questions, etc. It just wipes them off the board a tiny bit faster, which is only even noticeable by the people who spend 24/7 online.

Of course, the problem with this kind of thread is that what user would say no? Who doesn't want a shot at mod? And vice versa, most mods would say no because, well, they'd rather not risk a newbie :P

Hence someone who has been on Temp for years and has been active all those years is the mod team their best bet.
Those who have nothing else to do with their lives except spend it on Temp would make excellent candidates.

That's why there's post history, to check how sane users are.
Okay, I don't think any mod is really dying to comb through random user histories to gain a new mod whose effect may not even have very much impact. The amount of work and trust it takes to hire someone new is most likely greater than the achieved effect.

You should see PSXHAX forums all you need to do is ask and you will become mod (Not kidding!). 2 year of running nothing bad has happened! :D
I think you guys should focus on making people a staff rank if they have more than 1,000 posts. (If they want to)

You see the problem with this is basically: Shitposting.
Or posting stuff that it's not exactly off topic, but still doesn't really help to the thread.

Any active member can get 1000 posts in a month or two.
Doesn't count for reliability unfortunately.

1,000 posts isn't that much, in the scheme of things, especially with the crap-posters inflating their post counts. Back in ye olden days, people thought it took 10k posts!

That's why I'm proposing the following:
- Find a candidate (whether it be a volunteer or "hey, that user looks sane")
- Briefly look through the user's post history, to see how sane/helpful they are.
- If whoever looked thinks "hmm.... I don't know about this user..." then move to another user
- If whoever looked thinks "He seems pretty sane/helpful, and is on a lot", then proceed
- Grant limited moderator privilages, but not enough to do permanent harm (at Project Pokemon, I withheld the low-level moderator groups' ability to permanently delete things, so there's always an audit log and the ability to undo things)
- Make sure the new moderator is behaving.

I don't think post count is a good indicator of anything (Project Pokemon's newest admin didn't even previously have an account; granted, administration is different, but still), and there should definitely be some sort of background check, even if it's a short one.

Doesn't age play a part in this? Most users on this site are like 12. I mean it depends if they are smart and mature 12 year old kids maybe.
