I'll explain everything that happened.

First of all: I own a 2DS for about 1 week. The Pokemon Moon came pre-installed.

Step 1: The game was behaving normally, I saved and closed it. When I turned the 2DS on again, the following message appeared "The sd card couldn't be recognized. please end the game and start again". So I did. Again and again. Removed the card, reinserted, and nothing. Until someone in forums told me to format the card. So I saved the content, formatted and put it all back in. Worked like a charm.

Step 2: I played a few more hours. Then in the middle of a wifi trade, the game froze. I pressed all buttons, waited like 5min and nothing. So I forced turned off the device. When I rebooted it, it said "The saved game data is corrupted.". I panicked. Looked for solutions and some people were saying there was no salvation. Again. Panic. So I formatted the SD again, put the old files in it and wished for the best.

Step 3: A new message arose. "The saved data is not compatible with this version, so it can't be used". Now I'm freaking out for over 2 days. I don't know what do...

I found this thread, but that's like reading korean. I don't get anything. I don't know hacking...
Is there a solution? If so, could you explain it to me without using strange acronyms? T_T

Your sd card sounds seriously dead, try and use another one instead, constant corruption is not a normal behaviour lol

But if it's a relatively new 2DS the SD card shouldn't be corrupted. Unless it's a 4GB card, which only barely holds Pokemon Moon. Try getting a bigger SD.

It got corrupted twice so clearly there is problem with the 2ds/sdcard, I would recommend to try a different sd card and use the above linked program to check for problems on the other one. Even if it is brand new it thosen't me the hardware is in perfect order especially sd cards as nintendo don't even manufactuer those themselves and just put some low quality sd cards from 3rd parties when you buy a 3ds

That seems dumb on their behalf to put low quality cards... but it's "free" so it sorta makes sense... I'll replace it for sure.

Eventually I went to the store where I bought it, and they soft reset the game. They can't guarantee it won't corrupt again or found the cause.
They said it might had to do with powering off without going to the home screen first and closing the game... I was completely newbie to make such a mistake but I couldn't have known. My previous handset was a regular Nintendo DS. Oh well.

Doesn't matter if it just came from the factory. Could easily be a bad SD card.

You don't have to go to the home screen and close the game before powering off.

I don't? My friends who own a 3DS were shocked when I told them I didn't do that way...
its the same as any os, if you power off without closing all programs they might corrupt a file that if they where writing to it while you powered off but since this is a 3ds there are almost no background programs and the foreground program only writes data when it's saving but pretty much all games warn you of this so it should be no problem as long as you abide by what they say

NOT true. On the 3DS you DO have to close the game before powering off... for Card2 games.
The poweroff function actually doesn't properly close the file handles for Card2 saves. If you poweroff directly after saving, you'll likely corrupt it.

Though Card2 only applies to physical cartridges. Not an issue with digital games.

I would love to see where it says in the game manual to exit to the home screen before shutting off. Please cite a source for this.

The game says "Do not power off or close the system while saving" it says NOTHING about "Please save game, then exit to home screen, then go to your game and press X to close it, then you are safe to shut down"

The hell you on about the only difference between a card2 and card1 game is the save location nothing else, also it those not apply in this case we are talking about a preinstalled game aka digital

- card2 games saves on the rom
- card2 games saves are written correctly on the rom even if you don't quit the game properly.

I'm pretty sure he said that in the context of Gateway.
Not only have MANY online reports confirmed the Card2 saving issue, I've had it happen to myself.
K but isn't gateway just a card spoofer? like the games run the same as if they where on a real cart so it really shouldn't make a difference

No...it runs a CFW that can load .3ds files from the MicroSD card plugged into it. Requires exploitable firmware though.

So I'm assuming it only works on 9.2 or older since that was the latest system version with the vuln to run cfw, thosen't that make them obsolete thought since you can also just get a9lh if you are that out of date?
