You probably should have started with that.... What have you tried?

By the way if one party of the guide won't work as expected, doing something downy than it says is a recipe for bricking. If you don't understand a part of can't get it to work, ask here before doing something silly.

I bought it, it had 9.4.0 on it, I followed the guide and managed to downgrade it to 9.2 just fine, then I kept slowly and carefully following the guide, everything worked perfectly decrypt9 worked ok,ctrtransfer worked ok, sysnand backup worked ok, up until the last page. (arm9loaderhax), I was going through all the 'prep' and had copied/moved/deleted all the files it tells you to. then it said to use the 3ds browser to go to 'http://dukesrg.github.io/2xrsa.html?arm11.bin' My browser has stopped working.. it either gets a black screen that tells you to reboot or you get the normal browser screen and the 3ds freezes up in under 2 secs.. nothing works but a hard reset.

(note: if I turn on my 3ds now, it says its running 2.1.0 firmware)

I've not done anything else to it, since I don't want to risk damaging it or bricking it.

Is your WiFi on with a connection set up?
Do you have arm11.bin on your SD card?

(BTW wow those are some weird autocorrects in my previous post!)

I did read clearing that does help, however I can't get into the browsers options, it freezes when(or before) I click on the spanner button :(

Hmm, that's weird!!
If nobody has any other suggestions, you can still use Cubic Ninja to install a9lh. If you get a Cubic Ninja let me know and I'll find that old part of the guide for you.

A system format MIGHT help but wait till someone says it's definitely safe (eg I know you definitely don't want to do it with a 2DS or an N3DS)

Thanks, but I'm scared of bricking it and my cash being wasted. I've contacted gamesquest1 and he kindly agreed to hardmod it for me, so I think I'll "chicken out" and send it to him.. it's going to break my bank as its hard time of the year but I think it is the safest bet in the long run.

Thanks for helping anyway :)

Alright fair enough. Probably a good call as it sounds like something weird is going on - and even if you spent ages trying to fix it you might not have succeeded and you'd have to send it away anyway.

(I am a fan of the principle of doing the thing that's guaranteed to work but costs a little more, right away, instead of trying to save a few $ and ending up having to do the guaranteed thing eventually anyway, thereby spending more $ than if you'd done it right to begin with, and wasting a lot of time)

I am running an A9LH modded N3DS, on the most recent firmware and just updated Luma3DS, but for some reason HBL is sticking on the red screen/black on top... it's happened to me before and I was able to fix it, I think but I can't recall how. I may try the hourly build of the 6.6.x Luma fw. Any ideas?

Red screen usually means you are missing boot.3dsx

1. Follow 3ds.guide/get-started on the 5.x console. Everything is done on sysNAND, and no, hacking it with Gateway does not mean you can skip any steps. If you want the data from the emuNAND available, make sure to follow the optional "Move emuNAND" section near the end.
2. Follow 3ds.guide/get-started for the 11.2 console. You'll see the is a choice for hardmod or DSiWare downgrade. Choose the latter, and you can then use the freshly hacked system to help you downgrade it. Pay attention to the bottom of the DSiWare downgrade section where it tells you what step to move onto next.

Hey, I have two simple questions:
I have an American o3DS and I'm planning to buy an European N3DS and unlock it through system transfer, but I've read that its not possible to do a system transfer if they're not from the same region, so why not? I also read that I must have both on the same version (Like 11.0.0 or so) is this version in the Emunand or in the Sysnand?

Every piece of 3DS software is signed with a private key. This signature is verified by checking it against the 3DS's public key. You can think of the private key like a key and the public key like a lock.

When you modify a piece of software, the private key's signature is broken, the key has changed. When it is checked against the public key, the public key says it's invalid, the key can no longer open the lock.

CFW gets around this by ignoring the check on the private key's signature, so the lock doesn't care what key you use; any key can open the lock. This is why CFW is required.

Sorry for asking a question that probably has an obvious answer, but is there any way to modify a piece of software without breaking the private key's signature? Unless it's somehow checking the entire program file—which I doubt would be doable on the fly within any reasonable time frame for things like retail 3DS games—there has to be a specific part or parts of the software that it checks. Is there some reason it's impossible to modify a piece of software without that being altered?

There is no way to change a piece of software without breaking the private key. It works sort of like an MD5 hashing check. Changing a single byte of a file will modify its MD5 hash dramatically. The same idea applies when checking a signature.

The only way to modify a piece of software and still have it be recognized as having a valid signature is to know the private key and sign the software again.

If you want to be sure of a DS flashcart working it's best to have CFW. Then 99% of carts will work. A lot of flashcarts got blocked on 7.x firmware and refurbished consoles will have the latest firmware. A few newer flashcarts escaped the cut, like the DSTwo. So I guess it depends how new the flashcart is. If you got it when the DSi was the latest console it will be unlikely to work. You'd be better off getting a second hand consoles rather than a Nintendo refurbished one, so you can be sure it is on 10.7 or less (you can get CFW easily on this version or below by following 3ds.guide/get-started).

To then make a really old flashcart work you'd then want to search for ApacheThunder's TWL loader (for ones just blocked on 7.x then you only need the whitelist cia).

Thanks for the reply. I did a little reading @ 3ds.guide/get-started and for the new 3ds it shows it can be downgraded is it has version 11.0.0 - 11.2.0 is this something new?

on further reading, i see where version 11.2.0 requires a second 3ds. Something I dont have, or wont have. Though it says a update will come that doesnt require the second 3ds. Looking into this a little deeper, it also requires a hardware mod, ive got solder iron, but not the steadiest of hands.

No, the new method will be software only. It will be the same as the current DSiWare downgrade guide only without the system transfer, and a different way to get the hacked save into the console.
