Hacking Patching deviceID on CFW boot: Is it possible and would any devs be interested in implementing it?

(to CFW devs) Would it be possible for these ideas to be implemented?

  • No, you are wrong about all of this.

I have a very important update for everyone!

As most of you probably know, my DeviceID patching idea has started to become a reality with @PF2M's NTR-based Nintendo Network unbanning method and the experimental Luma build by @Nanquitas. Shortly after these developments, Nintendo started checking the spoofed DeviceIDs against the ones in the signed certs of the devices using the spoof, thus negating the development.

Fortunately for us, an unbelievable discovery has been made earlier today:

Yes, you read that right.

Nintendo made certs interchangable between their platforms
! :rofl2:

We can use certs dumped from a Wii in addition to the 3DS ones!

Regarding the chances of this getting fixed:

Remember:

Never underestimate Nintendo's stupidity when it comes to security. :P

So this possibly means there might be a way unban our NNIDs and use them too? Am I reading this right? I've tried the Naquitas Luma patch and ended up getting a different error code (022-2634) and the NTR method and that didn't work either

I pwned U!

I am pleased to beat you!

NNIDs cannot be unbanned. We can only unban ourselves from the services that use them with these developments.

My interpretation was that it meant you could use the services without an NNID. But the Pokémon are tied to your NNID so you wouldn't be able to get them. Happy to be wrong though!
No, you're right. When you get banned you can kiss your NNID and everything tied to it goodbye. You're also going to lose your Friend Code and all your friends.

@Everyone else: You can only fully unban yourself with a secondary 3DS. People are free to try to use the certificate from a Wii but this will most likely cause some very undesirable effects. Using the CTCert from an O3DS on an N3DS, or vice versa, causes NIM to believe that you are using the source system, so you won't be able to use the eShop without getting an update nag. I imagine that the same would happen when using the data from a Wii. NIM can be patched to get around this, but you won't be able to update your system. Also, using a loader of some kind instead of directly adding this functionality to a CFW would allow users to maintain upstream updates for whatever custom firmware they use, especially since no developer is going to add this to upstream.
