I took the sd cards out right around the time the 3ds was describing how to properly do the file trans on the computer.

I put the cards back in.

Then the data transfer part started. It hit 100% said the transfer was completed then the error hit.

It sounds like I did the SD card data swap too early?
Wait so you took the sd card out of the source 3ds before the transfer had finished?

Ya. I took the SD cards out when the 3ds was describing how to do that on the computer.

Then I put the SD cards back in the 2ds/3ds

Then I continued through. It did the transfer then. And finished to 100% then error came.

Sounds like I'm suppose to read the how to transfer stuff on computer but let it transfer first. Then take out the cards and do the data swap on PC.

Well I think that's why the error occurred. You got to think unless you've installed the sd-less version of luma (which I wouldn't recommend), your 3ds won't even boot without the sd card inserted... So why would you take it out while the screen is still on performing a transfer?

well it wasn't performing the transfer at the time. It was sort of just prepping for it.

The screen was showing you how to copy the data to SD card as if now was the time to do it.

So I'm suppose to wait till it says trans is complete 100%. Then it tells you to go ahead and do the manual data transfer?

Yeah like I know the system transfer wasn't performing but you literally cannot boot the 3ds without the sd card. It'd be the same as taking out the hard drive in your computer while it was still turned on...

You should make a backup of your sd card before the transfer with your 2ds turned off, then do the system transfer and after its finished turn off the source 2ds and put its sd card in the target 3ds

Hello, I had EXACTLY this situation.

The difference is that I never REMOVED the SD Cards
I just used the 8 hour local transfer!

This guys issue was he removed the sd card while doing the transfer and you used wifi to transfer gigabytes of data. Both obviously causing errors

I just spoke with Nintty

the NNID transfered over to the new 3ds. I'm going to just create a new NNID on 2ds. Buy the game again. and cross my fingers in 7 days.

I said to them to transfer my NNID from the "lost" N3DS to the 2DS and I'm waiting for that email. ;/

I had the exact same issue as OP, except my transfer did finish without error. It just didn't transfer my games, including DSiware and Steel Diver. I deleted everything from target 3DS and copied everything from source as is. Apparently you have to merge source Nintendo 3DS folder with target, not delete stuff from target (someone on gamefaq resolved it this way). So I called up Nintendo and they were kind enough to unlink my NNID from target new 3DS and restore it on my o3DS.

So now I wait for 7 days (been 4 days already) and retry everything again. This time I'll do full transfer over local wireless just to avoid any confusion, delete everything from source 3DS except LoE and Sticker Star (for stickerhax since steelhax fails 9 out of 10 times) to reduce data size to minimum and cross my fingers.

I've only ever chose the 'PC transfer' option and its worked without a hitch everytime. Just move DSiWare to sd card when told to then take out source sd and put it in target 3ds. Bam she works

I think its easier when both 3DS have same type of SD cards, you can just pull it out of one and put it into another. Going from o3DS to n3DS however and you to involve a PC and can botch things up (like I did).

Btw is it possible to use microSD to SD card adapter in o3DS, then when it tells you to remove your SD during transfer, just pull it out of adapter and put it in n3DS?

Yeah I use a microsd to sd adapter in my o3ds and then when prompted I took it out of my o3ds then out of the adapter and put the micro sd in my n3ds. Worked a charm.

Thanks, think I'll copy everything from SD to microSD now and use it with an adapter with o3DS for now until system transfer.

Yep it's what I did and I had no issues. Make sure you make a backup of the o3ds sd card though so you can restore it later. And also make a nand.bin backup

Well shit, I just formatted new 64gb microSD card, copied everything from SD card, put it into an adapter and put it back in o3DS, and now it shows completely different menu. Sticker Star and Steel Diver gone and replaced with OoT out of nowhere. Put the old SD card back and everything back to normal again.

Think I'm gonna stick with wireless transfer lol, can't rely on card swapping and get burned again.

Are you formatting to fat32?

Man that makes no sense... They're literally the same files... Wireless transfer should be more unreliable by its wireless nature [emoji848]

Yup fat32 using guiformat.

Edit: Cloned microSD card with Minitool and everything is showing up perfectly. I still wouldn't trust this method for transfer though.
