Ok, so I've been at this for hours, but I'll try to keep this as short, but detailed as possible:
I'm using an r4i 3ds sdhc (bougth from r4i-sdhc.com). I have my ds roms on the flashcart as "flashcartsd:/ROMS." I downloaded the "DS Game Forwarder pack (DSTT, R4i Gold, R4i-SDHC, SC DSONE)" pack, and copied the contents of "for Slot-1 microSD (R4i Gold, R4i-SDHC)" to the root. I also got the 3DS SD Card files, "_dsttfwd" and "nds," then put them in the 3ds sd card root directory. Now with my most recent attempt, I ticked "Games are on SD Card," "Auto-Random TID," and "Update templates at startup." I browsed to my "ROMS" folder on the flashcart, then selected them all and they loaded in. Once loaded, they all had blue TIDs, so I proceeded generate them. I generated the CIAs, and copied them to my 3ds sd card, to a folder I have for cias. Using FBI, I finally downloaded the forwarders.
SO now the problem: No matter what I've done so far, the forwarders never boot anything, resulting in an "error" telling me to look at the Operations Manual, like it does when a card isn't seated in well. However, if I press the flashcart's icon like it was a normal card, it boots up fine, but with the original kernel. I'm not sure what YSMenu is supposed to look like on my type of card, but one of my theories is that YSMenu is simply not starting up? Not sure, send help please.
