GCN Best option right now?

Hey guys, I had a GameCube a while ago with a xenogc, so I still have a lot of backups laying around. But that system and chip have stopped working, what is the best option right now for loading backups?

I bought a second hand clean GameCube, and Ive looked at another xenogc, but I've also looked at the wiikey fusion because of loading from SD backups. Is there anything that will easily run SD backups? I've got a pretty good grasp on installing these things, so soldering and flashing arent an issue.

The easiest way in my opinion is using the Wii as a GameCube. you can load games with USB with just a softmod. its very easy to do and its almost perfect compatibility.
And since the Wii is basically a stronger GameCube, its just like running it on the GameCube.

I can also just run everything in dolphin on my computer. I have more of an attachment for the gamecube because it is one of my favorite systems.

Have an attachment over the games, not the system. Using a gamecube when you have a PC that can run dolphin is such injustice to your own experience it makes no sense why you would gimp yourself on purpose. Dolphin has come a long way in terms of features and compatibility.

Well then, sorry for suggesting. The GameCube is my favorite system and i still rather play GameCube games on my Wii than suffer with GameCube backup loading, which has many flaws.

Don't use a GameCube if you have a Wii. The best way to load backups on GameCube is probably the Wiikey Fusion, but it requires soldering. No hardware modifications are needed on a Wii and it can do so much more than a GameCube.

If you must maximize compatibility on a Gamecube, you're stuck with disc backups. Select games may have issues from SD or anywhere else.

Get a Wii. It's smaller than a gamecube, and you can find one with a broken drive (you don't need it) for cheap. I think you might be able to set it to boot directly to your loader of choice, and if you can find one that supports GC controllers then you don't even need a Wii remote.

You guys are really giving terrible answers. If he wanted to know what was the best option for Gamecube games in general he would have asked. His reasoning to wanting to use his Gamecube over any other device (albeit even if they're better alternatives) shouldn't matter and simply isn't what he asked. I have an emotional attachment to playing Gameboy games on my Gameboy, my Gamecube may be a better option in playing them but I still prefer playing them on the original device.

I don't personally know the answer, I've never really been into the scene. I'm just giving my two cents.

You can effectively set up a Wii so it's just a flattened GameCube. It plays the games, and it uses the controllers and memory cards. If you set it to boot directly to the loader and find a loader that's GC controller compatible, it would be the most seamless solution ever. And you're using the same controller so it feels the same in your hand.

Cheap way: Purchase an SD Gecko (SD to Memory Card Slot adapter) on Amazon for like $15 dollars, and use the latest version of Action Replay to autoboot Swiss-GC for loading your backups. (Also susceptible to glitch and audio lag, good for testing mostly. Plus you need to boot with a 2 GB SD Card and then switch to a larger card after Swiss is booted for your games)

Hard way: Purchase a WASP Fusion from Eurasia.nu, hook it up to a Wii and flash it with the latest WiiKey Fusion firmware, flash Swiss-GC to it so the WASP Fusion boots directly to Swiss-GC, and solder that directly to your GameCube. WASP Fusion is a great hardware clone of the WiiKey Fusion, which is long out of print. Even runs the same firmware. Using a Wii drive replacement on a GameCube

Expensive long way: Purchase a MEGADrive and a WASP Fusion from BadAssConsoles.com, which is basically a connector translator for GC Drives to Wii Drive Replacements and the replacement itself. You'll pay more, and the guy running BadAssConsoles takes FOREVER to fulfill his orders. Plus side is the MEGADrive requires little soldering, some versions don't require any at all, and the WASP Fusion comes automatically updated so you don't have to update it yourself.

Honestly this whole conversation is probably better off taking place at GC-Forever.com, they spend all day discussing stuff like this.

I personally think the best way is a WASP Fusion and a MEGADrive. BadAssConsoles.com sells the WASP Fusion already preflashed with Swiss. Using an 8GB SD for the drive replacement and an SD Gecko, you can have yourself a very nice backup loading system. And he did take long to fulfill my order, but the poor guy is a one-man operation and probably has a day job, family, etc. His hardware designs are very nicely done, and well worth the wait and the money. I like the SD loading option because it allows back up and dol loading without any moving parts. You've seen what happens to Playstations and Saturns, and it very well may be the fate of the Gamecube.
