notice that pokemon and tons of zelda games including mario games are supporting the 3ds handheld device. also switch doesnt have double screens, and their cartage is different. there isn't going to have 3ds games on the switch only wii u games.

Also, notice that the new 3ds just arrive couple months ago. wouldn't it be a dumb action to import every 3ds games on the switch. that would've make the new 3ds irrelevant now. they even came up with new colorways for the new 3ds. that shows that the 3ds wouldn't die that easly . it's their best device ever.
No Wii U games.

Since they made it clear the Switch is a "home console first," there's no way it can kill the 3DS. Unless Nintendo stops developing their big titles on 3DS, and first party people like Game Freak abandon the 3DS, then it'd be more like Nintendo cannibalizing the 3DS. Also too, the dual screen nature of the DS line is now too iconic to just shelf, that the eventual replacement for the 3DS will still have the dual screens but offer something more.

The switch will eventually kill the 3DS yes. I'm sure they'll release DS and 3DS VC's on it. It won't be an immediate kill off though. Let's face it though, with the switch (if it's as good as the teaser shows) there will be no need for a portable Nintendo system. The switch is a portable and home console so from a business stand point it just makes since to consolidate all resources from their portable side to their console side into one. They will not make another 3D system because the fad has died. If they do I'd be super surprised. (and super excited)

The switch is a Nvidia tablet with nintendo support, nuff said. It has the potential to kill a lot of systems off.

I'm still slowly working through a backlog of original DS titles alongside those for 3DS and expect to get many more years of play whether new games are developed for it much longer or not.

The Switch will not kill the 3DS or the Wii U, they've been dead for quite some time already. They are getting as many new releases as the Dreamcast lately.
The only thing the Switch can kill, if it kills anything, is Nintendo.

A part of me believes that a handheld will exist alongside the Switch. The Switch is portable but it's bulkier, doesn't seem too robust and will cost a few pennies around release. Therefore the 3DS might live for some time, probably as a cheaper alternative.

Of course there's no backwards compatibility. We know that. What are you trying to say?

if you read most of his post he doesn't know what he is talking about. just ignore him like everyone else.

tl;dr

Even though Nintendo has stated its a home console it will kill the 3DS. Nintendo does not care about an old console like the 3DS. They aren't gonna drop it like Sony did the Vita, but it will eventually fade away. The switch will not cost a ton of money, at least not for the tablet section. The accessories will kill your bank account I'm sure. It's an Nvidia tablet and with Nintendo's resources they can make them pretty cheap. it'll be aorund the $300 mark I'm sure for the base model. Maybe even less if they sell the tablet by itself.

From a pure business standpoint and to make money, they are going to make this their main home/portable console. It may not fit in your pocket but everyone now a days doesn't mind carrying a small tablet with them. IT's simple economics that they will consolidate into one console that is portable and a home console. Everyone has seen the whole android tablets that plug into a TV, and that's exactly what this is. But it will actually have a chance to become a big thing because it is from Nintendo.

but yea, simply put it will kill the previous consoles of Nintendo. Well the Wii U was already dead, but the 3DS is at the end of it's life cycle anyways. Great machine and I'll keep it but Android already has DS and before emulators, and 3DS emulation is getting better, so why can't Nintendo do it on their new switch? They can and will, just to get money. It has already happened with previous consoles so why would they ever change their strategy when it works.

also Nintendo won't ever tell us the 3DS is going to be replace until at least after christmas, they don't want people not buying their system because it'll be replaced soon. That's why they've stated they aren't going to give more details on the Switch until 2017. Gotta make that X-mas money!!!

Plain and simple the Switch will start the phasing out of all the Nintendo consoles, if it succeeds the first year or two that is.
