Here is my question. I live in Europe and I already have a vita. I want to buy a new one to hack it with the 3.60 thing. Is it à good idea ? I Am scared to buy a 3.61 and lose my money for nothing.

I buy one and it was on 3.51 !

A friend of mine bought a new Vita 1k some days ago, it was Firmware 2.XX

My guess is, every Vita you buy new will be lower than FW 3.60 - useless you get one from Japan.

I recently bought a "used" Soul Sacrifice Premium Edition vita on Amazon for $170 and only expected just the vita with a few scratches, but I got the entire bundle except for a charger (which I already had) and the Japanese copy of Soul Sacrifice. The bundle was worth $504!! And it came with everything brand new with the vita itself on 2.05.

It depends on the stores really, but as you're in Belgium I would say it's very unlikely to encounter one in a store which would be 3.61. If you are friendly and ask the workers in your local game shop how long the consoles have been on the shelf they might answer you about it, especially if they have been there for a long time, remember 3.61 was created by Sony after HENKaku was created so it would have to be a system made in the last couple of months and shipped to your local shop.

I would wager it would be almost impossible to encounter a 3.61 Vita new in EU, but if you are in any doubt you could always try second hand stores and if you again are friendly with the staff you could ask for a little demo of the system to "make sure the screen is okay" or something and then just head straight for the System info and check the Version before buying it.

Thanks Ganoncrotch, i'm gonna ask the sellers. :) I don't really want to buy a used console because my own console is very clean (I'm very careful) and i don't want to have a less beautiful one. A used vita good as new in shops are rare, there is always at least one scratch on the screen.

Yeah that is the one thing the Vita is missing in comparison to the clam design of the 3DS/DS systems, that screen is just massive and wide open to things scratching against it, even inside the cover I have, I had a game slip loose into the side with the Vita before and left a tiny mark on the edge of the screen. Still though with the screen light on the scratch on mine isn't noticeable so even if you seen one a little scuffed in a pawn shop it could always be worth asking to see it on just to see how it looks. Also if you were going second hand I would definitely insist on seeing the settings before buying, since a Vita being used in the past few months would be far more likely to have 3.61 on it than a new Vita gathering dust in a box in the back room of Gamestop hah.

Good for you man :) Me, i'm affaid to buy this on the internet. The seller can lie for the firmware or the scratches and on the photos, it's sometime hard to see due to the light or something. And I want an EUR console. I'm not sure if an US or JAP console have my native language in it...

It'd be impossible to encounter a brand new 3.61 Vita anywhere. Sony had slowed production to a crawl back in April, if they haven't stopped production altogether now, and AFAIK no new shipments have been sent to stores in ages. You will never ever find a new, unopened Vita with a firmware above 3.5 (or possibly 3.36, I don't believe anyone has actually reported a new Vita with 3.5+ on it) period. This goes for Vita TVs as well.

All vitas are region free, as a result you can choose any language you want on it, mine came from Japan and I was able to set it to English, French or Spanish whenever I choose to. Don't let it hold you back from sweet deals man!

Why don't you buy it online? Even if the firmware is 3.61, you can return it and get another anyway.
And yeah, Sony stopped producing Vita for quite a long time before the release of 3.61 so any brand new Vita should not have it.

A custom or limited edition vita would be great for me (I don't know what are the special editions but I know that the Project Diva one in Japan is super expensive) and you can only find that type of vita online. Also, I can't find on the internet any good price for a vita in Europe (if it's outside the Eur, I'll pay customs duties) like new with no scratches on 3.60. I really want a console with a clean screen. Also, I can only pay online with PayPal.

My new Vita2000 from Amazon had 3.52 on it. No big deal, just reporting on what FW I had.

Even then they're not going to have any consoles with 3.52 or higher.

At this point, the only Vita consoles that might actually have a firmware higher are going to be the 2 new Japan-exclusive silver/red-ish Slims...which aren't even out yet and won't be until December 1st. And even then they might still ship with at least 3.60
