eBay really doesn't punish them. They either lower the score of the user or ban the account. They really don't stop them from making new accounts or even do much of a follow up on repeat offenders.

Ebay is the only decent site for online shopping in Australia. Other sites like Amazon simply aren't worth it here, be ready to pay $30 for shipping alone. The next best thing we have is Gumtree but that's basically a glorified craigslist. It's terrible here.

As a seller I've only had a problem once. Someone won one of my auctions and decided they didn't want the item after all.

As a buyer I've had maybe a handful of issues.
I've had a few items that never showed up.
I bought a Nexus 5X which turned out to be Japanese so it didn't work on Verizon(was not mentioned in the description).
I bought a psp that was supposed to be essentially new, but had a horrible gap in the casing.
And I'm sure there's more, but I buy a lot of stuff. It's actually been overwhelmingly positive.

In my many, many, many years of eBay-ing, I've only ever had problems with buyers having buyers remorse. Losers requesting a refund for being defecting or broken, when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the item whatsoever. I've even went so far as to video tape myself opening the returned packages with zero damage & working 100% fine - with eBay still deciding in favor of the buyer.

eBay today, basically gave me the finger. Purchased a lawn mower and it never arrived. The tracking number that was provided, claims that it was delivered but the weight is all wrong. Even UPS is investigating but all eBay wants to do is tell me, no refund, give me an international number that supposedly belongs to the seller and point me towards opening a police report. It's bullshit! I'm completely done with them. Used to juggle between eBay and Amazon, especially since eBay tends to be cheaper but now, screw them! The bastards even censored my negative review of the seller.

That really sucks. Ebay like others have said is a ces pit. There is more crime involved with Ebay overall, and much more risk. I would simply stick with Amazon since at least they will refund your money as long as you're a prime member (which has its benefits).

I haven't had any big problems with them since 2004ish when a carefully-packaged replacement LCD I sold had been supposedly broken in transit and they had declined the optional insurance that they subsequently tried to collect on. The only other real bad experience was when I got ripped off for 50USD or so in the real early days (2001). Feedback research is a must to avoid problems and if there is a big enough gamble always use a credit card through PayPal for an extra layer of recourse.

I have lost £300 approx as a seller on ebay, my galaxy note 2 got purchased by some fuck who ended up "sending my item back" and even won the case when one week later when I opened one for the item not being sent back despite a refund being sent to the guy, never got my phone or money back.
Same happened with a £150 motherboard I sold, buyer claimed it was defective and wanted to send it back for a refund, exact same fucking thing happened.

It's like anything, poeple boycott a service, things should change? or just use something else...

As someone who has 100% feedback over 10 years as a buyer and seller, I can say with certainty that eBay is trash, both years ago, and to this day. You've got sniper bots that come in and bid at the last second, dirty sellers who never ship items, and scumbag buyers who purchase digital codes, claim them, and then report you to eBay for never sending them their item. But eBay still has the occasional rare item that might not be on Amazon, and that's when you have to make sure you're buying for a perfect seller, and even then you might get burned. It's best to avoid it in favor of Amazon, who's customer service is undoubtably the best.

Yeah, you get the shaft big time when some mofo and ebay has you off, as they are all for the buyer, yet have jack shit in place for the sellers. I have been in similar situations and there isn't much you can do.

If you bought it with Paypal, they'll probably do something. Paypal is bias as fuck towards the buyer. When something goes wrong, I don't even bothering going through eBay's customer service.

I've had a few issues with Ebay before (counterfeit/fake stuff advertised as OEM, such as the back of a Nexus 4, which turned out to be made of plastic, definitely not OEM as OEM is made of glass), but I always managed to get refunded, if not by the buyer, by contacting PayPal or Ebay Customer support. And I buy a lot of stuff so I'm pretty happy overall.

Indeed. PayPal's bias towards the buyer is afaik one of the reasons why people don't like selling cryptocurrency for PayPal money. It'd be easy to scam someone by claiming they didn't get their BTC/DOGE/whatever and PayPal would just refund you, screwing the seller.

The sellers on Amazon are much worse. They re-seal clearly used stuff and sell it to you as brand new.
yeah..., bought a new motherboard for a friend, it looked like it had been opened before... however since it was my friend who received the package even if he told me he did not opened it, i can't say for sure... but most likely it was already open... but nothing is missing, it shines and smells like brand new so...

and in some cases doesn't the buyer needs to send the item back to the seller? wasting money and time, for something the seller really tried to scam?
i remember reading ebay\paypal may do this... i am afraid that an item comes from overseas and i must either suck it up or pay more than the item itself to ship it back

jeez.. that's really fucked up...
i was wondering if i buy an item and i get scammed, how will paypal make sure i ship it back and not just an empty box...
i guess they don't... fuck... this really needs fixing...
why can't ebay\paypal offer a middleman service, colaborate with postal service??
or postal services in the countries start their own ebay?
you could pay a a tax\fee and send the item to a ebay\postal service addess. the people would verify the item and make sure everything is alright... (it's a boxed item, or item is not fake etc...)

is bidding still bullshit? what about everytime someone bids at the last second, bidding time is increased 1-5 minutes, this way you prevent snipper bidding..

There are some cases, but not all cases. Like I got a fake 32GB microSD card (It was only 4GB and a Class 4) and they just sent my money back, without me needing to send the microSD card.

What's wrong with bidding at the last second? You still only win if you are the highest bidder, if someone else has a higher maximum amount, the system still increases their bid to the minimum above yours no matter how late you put it in.

The only thing it prevents are people who are willing to pay X, but only put Y as their max coming back and upping their bid, but that's their own fault, ebay tells you to put the max you are willing and the system will automatically up it for you as needed.

I remember a year or two ago buying a copy of Panzer Dragoon on eBay (great game btw, totally recommend) and after the auction ended I immediately paid up. A day later I'm refunded by the buyer with no explanation so I took it up with eBay. They said there was nothing that could be done in this scenario and to cut my losses so I gave negative feedback. The seller had the gall to send me a request to change the feedback back to positive and saying he didnt put in the correct shipping address. I told him to go through with the transaction as intended or go fuck off (I only use one shipping address for eBay so his excuse is bullshit.)

Yeah nowt wrong with sniper bidding. Sock puppets, meat puppets and similar are all wrong and possibly even illegal in many places, same story for fake feedback and shill bidding is also wrong and actually quite illegal ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/07/05/ebay_shill/ ). Running others up, massive jumps, bid psychology and the like is all part of the game (and auctions are very much a game in game theory and the related psychology).
Now if you are going to go all high frequency trader on us and get a machine closer to ebay's servers and fully automate things then that might well be against terms of service and I actually don't know the law here (the high frequency trading people have been involved in some interesting cases and regulation battles these last few years).

Yeah, it's actually set up so you can NOT snipe.
I think the ebay fees are too high for selling, though. On top of that there 's the paypal fees.
