The fact that it is ShadowNAND with screeninit by default as opposed to ShadowNAND and the fact that it will load from the default a9lh path was what made me pick DNANwodahS as the name ;)

Upside of having altstage2 is it allows you to recover from stage2 fuckups without hardmod.
Also I'd like to tell all of you that I will release a new version with path as SD root and a better way to tell if you want screen init or not. Stay tuned.

EDIT: I need to sort out my VM first. My laptop died, so, it'll take a little bit.

Huh, alright. That's cool.

Welp, in the meantime, I've compiled my fork.

It only changed an if compared to ShadowNAND v0.85. The only difference as of right now is that DNANwodahS uses Screeinit by default.

Note: This should work fine, but I haven't tested it at all. Also, this is not endorsed nor it is supported by @Shadowhand .

You can find DNANwodahS v0.85b0.1 (aka ShadowNAND with screeninit) here --> https://github.com/gnmmarechal/DNANwodhaS/releases/tag/v0.85b0.1

Cool stuff. I'll see what other changes I can make to NDANwodahS to make it something more than "ShadowNAND with default A9LH path and screeninit by default".

Aaand, remembering that name is horrible. I have to think how to spell ShadowNAND backwards every time x.x.

How do I even say it? I'll end up record myself saying "ShadowNAND" and playing it backwards.

x.x

Huh. Seems like I'm going to make it behave like both ShadowNAND and AW's A9LH. I'll have it boot non-screenit by default if booting from /arm9loaderhax.bin or /homebrew/3ds/boot.bin , while making it screeninit if booting from /arm9loaderhax_si.bin or /homebrew/3ds/boot_si.bin. This is like AW's A9LH. However, like ShadowNAND, users can press DPAD_LEFT to boot it the other way.

Ok, now I should probably stop hijacking ShadowNAND's thread and potentially confusing people who may want ShadowNAND instead of DNANwodahS.

How safe is this to install?
im thinking of installing
A significant number of people use ShadowNAND. Should be safe enough, I suppose. I have yet to find someone who bricked with this.

Hmmm... Tried to install on o3DS (EUR, 11.1) - got black screen on boot without sd or trying to load SaltFW. Loading CTRBootManager9 (with D-PAD DOWN) works, so I have safely returned to Luma3DS.
P.S.: I've tried downgrading FIRM to 10.4 and strangely that have not helped.

Is your console downgraded with GW or regionswapped?

They would probably just swap the motherboard and screen in the 3ds, which would remove your ShadowNAND installation whether Nintendo knows about it or not.
Damn.

Anyways. please just answer the initial question whether ShadowNAND survive update without CFW files/SD card.

Perhaps to save the ShadowNAND, my friend should make sure that Nintendo won't change the motherboard as there are plenty of important game propress she want to keep. Only need the screen repair

Yes, ShadowNAND survives a system update without the help of a CFW.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll let my friend know so she remove her homebrew app (after back up NAND), then can contact Nintendo for the screen reparation and make sure they don't swap the motherboard.

If this is anything useful to anyone, i found out that you can remove the sd card of a region changed 3ds right after the screeninit and it will still bootup.
