Poetic fan-made Zelda anime movie trailer makes us wish it were real

Last week, talented artist Matt Vince released a short trailer for a fictional Zelda anime movie (watch below). The video has already been watched over half a million times, and if you're like us, you'll probably wish it could be turned into an actual movie.

What makes this awesome is that the general artistic direction was deliberately based on that of Studio Ghibli, world famous anime film studio formerly led by Hayao Miyazaki (Porco Rosso, Castle in the sky, Princess Mononoke...). Nintendo, you know what to do!

Ew it's based off of OOT, kill it with fire!

ALTTP would make for a much more interesting Hyrule.

Also anime adaptations of the mangas would be brilliant.

Can they really do that cause it has a name for copyright content? I mean i seen parodies before, was it permission concent to do such things or were people just trying to be creative about something they really liked? It not like it will damage their sales or anything like the 2 fangames from July.

There are no copyright laws when parodies are concerned, if anything the copyright laws help the parodies. But the fan made projects are very different from a parody. Take Weird Al, his songs sound like the source, but are parodies as most of the songs are changed. If he sang the same song as the original artist, even if he changed all the notes, it would still be just a copy and therefore, illegal.

yes, i read almost all zelda manga. however, they already show how terrible they would work as a movie. its a very serialized retelling of most stories, with sidequests sometimes taking much more room than dungeons or bosses, the heart of a zelda game.
.
boses fights, ok something to work more but dungeon is kinda hard , but also, can be done XD I readinh the TP manga now and it's great O3O
as a show, maybe. but even then...
and i mean, we all know what happened the last time zelda was animated.
.
well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse-me
Nah yhis not count , which animation or even live action movie made in usa based on games that was really good?
They say that megaman was okay but we can see the scoreboard and they haven't scored much ...

why all the hate?
The background pictures are nice and had both a zelda and ghibli touch design, that's what he wanted to do, right?.
Some pictures have obvious existing ghibli's work as base, but that's also probably his intention. that's easier to base it over an existing picture.

Music is from Kyle Landry, a known Piano artist on youtube (he was invited to E3 2012 by Nvidia to do a concert with Lara and Taylor).

Other Matt Vince work, from his website, has a similar visual (and maybe influenced ?) with Tim Schafer's Point&Click game design.

i honestly don't think they could do a zelda film unless they did a trilogy (could actually be kind of fitting :P ) but if they tried to cram everything people wanted to see in one film imho it would get too *busy*, part of the charm of zelda imo is the change off pace at times

that or they just do a film in the zelda universe and make it more about the overall action rather than following mr silent around kind of like hyrule warriors

unfortunately, no zelda plot really works in movie format. and if you dont have a zelda plot, it doesn't feel like zelda.
but yes, those were some very nice landscapes they had there.
I disagree. Zelda plots are mostly collect such-and-such and then retrieve X, then collect final so-and-so. It's easy to translate to movie format. I recommend giving the Zelda mangas a read and observe how they translate events of the games to a different format.

Correct. Many movies are now following similar story structure, which closely resembles the story structure of a video game. I think they could do some very creative things with the tropes of the series! Lotta cool opportunities for uniqueness when Link can't speak.
