Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice Demo announced for August 25th

For those wanting a preview of the upcoming drama, a free demo will be available to download for all consumers on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on August 25. The demo features a section from the first courtroom scenario in the game, and allows players to slip into Phoenix’s shoes in the Kingdom of Khura’in and get a taste of the newest gameplay feature, the Divination Séance. Through royal priestess Rayfa and her Divination Séances, players can revisit the last moments of a victim’s life and must fight to unravel the discrepancies and contradictions between the Royal Priestess’s Insight and what is shown in the séance. This demo is sure to make for an exciting first test to bring about justice before the game’s full release!

Capcom is pleased to officially announce that court will be in session in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice on September 8, 2016. The latest courtroom proceedings will be available to purchase digitally for USD 29.99 / GBP 24.99 / EUR 29.99 from the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. All-new evidence in the form of a trailer is available today introducing many of the game’s colorful characters and their respective features and special abilities.

This new game’s cast is full of many zany favourites alongside a new ensemble of characters to meet, and today Capcom is announcing several of them, including the return of forensics scientist Ema Skye, who first appeared in the originalPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Emahas passed her certification exams and is now a full-fledged forensic investigator. Here she returns to assist Apollo in his defense of the series’ popular magician, Trucy Wright, Phoenix’s adopted daughter. Trucy is famed for her magic tricks and vanishing acts, until she suddenly finds herself mixed up in an unfortunate incident that takes place during one of her magic shows. With Phoenix away, it’s up to Apollo and Athena to uncover the truth about the tragic death of Mr. Reus, one of Trucy’s co-performers. During this case, players will also meet the brand new character Bonny de Famme, a fledgling magician who appears in Trucy’s show and wants to help Apollo in any way she can, but what will her witness testimony reveal?

In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, forensic investigation techniques play a vital part in players analyzing the evidence to help solve some of the game’s mysteries. Utilizing the features of the Nintendo 3DS, players will be able to dust some crime scenes and search for fingerprints, while being able to examine certain objects at the scene a full 360 degrees to uncover hidden evidence like never before in the Ace Attorney series. Will the fingerprints match any of the suspects on file and uncover new truths? Combined with the ability to examine video evidence from multiple angles to check for inconsistencies, and other investigation techniques, this latest title in the Ace Attorney series is set to be the most thrilling outing to the courtroom yet!

Probably because the writer for the series, Shu Takumi, was busy making Ghost Trick, and the fact that he didn't want AA4 to have Phoenix in it at all. Capcom disagreed, and railroaded him into writing Phoenix in the story, and basically rewrote half of Takumi's plot. In 5/Dual Destinies, Capcom ousted Takumi entirely, and the story was written by someone else in-house. People say Justice For All had some slow and painful cases moments, but, ugh, 5 takes the cake. At least I can take solace that in 6, Maya is back.

Maya was the greatest omission from Dual Destinies, but I still enjoyed it. I think Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask normalized me with the switch from 2D sprites to 3D, so I was able to shake off that feeling quick. The third case was just so... UGH. The fourth and fifth blended together to become just a really long bleh for much of its run. I could get past most of the character models, but... Edgeworth......... eugh. Him in particular.

My personal favourite was PLVsPWAA. I think it's because I loved both Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, so having the crossover just doubled the enjoyment. I do agree about DD not being great. With all the other AA games, I can finish them in a day or two, whereas I still haven't brought myself to the end of DD. It just feels so different, even when it's mostly similar game mechanics.

I've been thinking of replaying the crossover recently due to it being over 2 years since I completed it. So I'll see how my opinions for that game are after replaying.

This is coming out just a few days after my Birthday.... thank you video game gods.

It's going to be different with the magic I guess, but it's not like this came out of left field with Maya and her channeling.

Looks great to me. I just hate how they didn't actaully do a lot to make her different in design. They slapped a white cowl on her usual outfit, gave her lipstick and called it a day. They are pandering so hard, and I'm just as unimpressed with this Non-Takumi-teams productions as I have ever been.

...Which reminds me: GBATemp makers of the Dai Gyaktuen Saiban fanslation, I'm crossing my fingers everything is going fine and we won't have to wait for too many years to play it becuase I just know i will like it more than this game.

I actually read an interesting tidbit from the series creator in an old blog of his where I think it hit the nail on the head for me and why I didn't enjoy DD.

Overall DD's problems are manifold and not just one thing. But there is one thing in particular that is constantly a problem which is the dialogue, and in Shu Takumi's blog post about PLvPWAA he revealed he actually writes dialogue so "it's easy to look at it to get a sense of what it says without really reading it" AKA easy to skim. In Dual Destinies though, characters love to talk like "Hi I am a shoemaker and yesterday I discovered something which made me really shocked. Please help me figure out the truth behind this horrible discovery" (nevermind the random text, but notice the feel of it). In longer doses this amount of text per dialogue box or these elaborately phrased lines really start to grate on you. There were too many moments in DD where the characters go like "I need to prove that this couldn't have been the case because something and then and this and that and blablabla".

If you replay the games before the new team took over, you'll notice how a lot of the time the dialogue only fits half or not even half of the dialogue box with quip responses like "No, I mean it!" and "What, this can't be true" and then with the context of what you already know in the story you know what they mean by these short responses, but in DD they EXPLAAAAAIN everything in drab and over-detailed detail. The pacing is methodical and boring. The villains are also terrible which makes the story bad, but otherwise the story is fine, it just doesn't feel that way becuase the dialogue sucks so hard. The characters are not as sharply written whatsoever.

Well, I've finished AA5 and I have to admit that it's a good game. The first case was horrible and the bonus one is horrible as well, but the others were good. Especially the last one (Case 4+5). Case 2 was pretty much useless, but still good enough.

I hope that AA6 will continue to build on what Cases 3-4-5 did on AA5. Lots of turnabouts, which is exactly what I expect from a game named Turnabout Courtroom :P

Capcom got me hard at the end!

I was getting excited, they were doing a great build up! Then Phoenix's inner monologue happened... "In the main game!"

Dammit, why can't September 8 come sooner!
