Here's an idea wait for zen cpus. Right now Intel equivalent processors with a gtx xx70 series whatever lets say i5 6500k with a 1070 with 16gb of ram will cost you 800 used 1100 new.

I use an fx 6300 don't bother with am3+ platforms even with a gtx 970 the fastest 16gb kit I can throw in there and an sad it's not enough for new aaa games above 1080p or above high settings

It's funny that people think you need an i7 to play games. You only really need a i3-6100 or equivalent cpu that's a dual core hyperthreaded cpu. Very few games need more than 2 cores/threads but a few newer games may need 4 cores/threads if very cpu extensive.

https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/CRRscf/modest-gaming-build This one seems in my price range and it runs on an Intel i5 Quad-Core. Most games like Dark Souls III only require Intel Core i3-2100 / AMD® FX-6300 or higher
Yeah that's a great mid-high tier build. I'd look into another motherboard that supports crossfire and also a better power supply. That way if you want you can throw another RX480 when the price drops and the build starts to age.

So is the "Recommended system requirements" on steam considered high-end? If so the an i5 sounds just right for the kind of ganes I want to play lol Dark Souls III, fallout 4 and Deus Ex would work fine

The i5 is for most users. Gaming wise it should do everything an i7 can do in most cases. Maybe if you want to get a 4th Gen i7 on the cheap but I'd stick with a 6th Gen i5.

Have a look at this Web page to give you an idea what Intel processors mean what http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/intel-core-i3-vs-i5-vs-i7-one-really-need/

Wow that shit was really useful =D now I understand the difference between all the other processors. So a lower gen i7 isn't as balanced or powerful as a higher gen i5. Ok and i5 doesn't have hyper-threading BUT can still have quad-cores which is better then a duel-core with hyper-threading

You must not optimize very well 900 USD is a huge budget.
Hahaha i don't optimise well. Sorry i've got an 6700k gtx 980 ti's in sli watercooled card and watercooled cpu with 32 gigs of ram. I do know what i'm talking about and 800 euro isn't enough if you're building from scratch with no parts to salvage from an old build for a high end or mid end pc. Building a pc from that amount will only last you a year or so before going in 2 mid settings to achieve 60 fps

Yeah it is. An i7 920 overclocked is still way better then an i5 overclocked

Yeah i can see that An i7 920 overclocked is way more powerful but I'm not looking to play everything on the highest settings

That build uses an intel processor so you should get an NVIDIA GPU not AMD. Swap it out for a GTX 1060 and you are golden.
Can we please stop perpetuating this myth that you can't "cross buy" CPU/GPUs?

Anyway, @OP, what's your absolute price ceiling? If someone hasn't already given you satisfactory guidance, I can work with you a little bit either in this thread or via PM

Well this is all theoretical atm. My aim is 600-800$ so get a decent (but not excessive) start. I don't need a fancy light-up keyboard or water cooling stuff, just basics that will last me a few years. I don't even care if its butt ugly, it just needs to work on most games lol. And I've gotten plenty of satisfactory guidance =] This thread has been a huge help

I've got a recommendation coming right up then :3

Edit: Do you live near a Micro Center?

Take a look at this: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TotalInsanity4/saved/zHG3CJ

It should be enough for your needs. Inexpensive, reliable parts that are capable of overclocking to 4.5GHz under the right conditions and a GPU that when overclocked will crush emulation and play games at mid-to-high settings for the next 2-3 years

If you want a build that can't overclock but uses a better GPU, let me know. And keep in mind that if you make a trip out to a Micro Center it will probably end up shaving around $100 off of your total cost
