I'm curious. If I downgrade my N3DS to 10.4 via the DSiWare method, would Browserhax work again as a Homebrew entrypoint since it is supposedly downgraded to 10.4?

I just went through the long process of installing Arm9LoaderHax and what-not. Everything went okay, except I forgot to backup my hs.app earlier on.

Is it essential that I have a working/normal Health & Safety Information, or not really?

Who even uses Health & Safety? All it does is sit in a folder or on the far part of the home menu to collect dust. No, it's not essential.

Guys, is there an easier way to transfer files to/from the microSD card without having to open the back cover every time? I know there is microSD Card Manager but that is for Windows only? (I have OSX)
FTP? there's ftpd for the 3DS. for mac, you could use filezilla or something.

I have installed a9lh and now I am trying to upgrade my SD card. First I have tried to install Emunand9 by adding the files from the 3ds folder to my SD card and the trying to open Emunand9 from the homebrew launcher. however Emunanad9 will not launch when I try and instead I just end up back on the Homebrew menu. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I worked out I can launch it by holding y on launch

DsiWare downgrades one part to 10.4 [the part that blocks system downgrades] - and yes browserhax should work after the downgrade.

I think explaining cfw; will cover most of the questions here:
There are different CFW's [custom firmware] for the 3ds; the most popular one atm being Luma3ds. What cfw does essentially is modify the firmware of the 3ds for various purposes - depending on the cfw in question. The main one being allowing the running of unsigned code i.e. cias [nintendos installable archive]. Fbi - allows the installation of .cias the first time you have fbi running on the 3ds is typically after injecting it into the H&S app - this gets around the issue of unsigned code, as the H&S app remains signed by nintendo.

Once injected fbi in H&S can be used to install an unsigned fbi.cia - and you can restore H&S to stock if you want. As this fbi and the cias it installed are unsigned you will need a cfw that modifies [writes in top of system files] to allow the running of unsigned code.

For eshop as you're still on 9.2; there should be a homebrew app to allow that. But I would advise either setting up an emunand and update it to 11.0.33 or install a9lh - which will allow you to run 11.0.33 on system nand with full cfw/arm9 benefits.

If your not using a9lh, you need emunand, to use fbi.
You can't use eshop on 9.2 that is what emunand is for, it should be updated to latest fiirmware to access eshop.
CFW can allow homebrew, eshop, and cart backup games to be installed as well as play out of region. (Games not localized for your country) and few other interesting things.

You need a program to inject FBI installer into health and saftey app to use in emunand.
This is covered in the a9lh installation guide. :)

Section II - Injecting FBI

  1. Get into the Homebrew Launcher on SysNAND through the entrypoint of your choice
  2. Open Decrypt9 (This can sometimes take a few tries), then go to "EmuNAND Options", then "Miscellaneous...", then select the "Health & Safety Dump" option to dump Health & Safety tohs.app (you can use Up and Down / Left and Right to change the name)
  3. Press Select to eject your SD card, then put it in your computer
  4. Extract Universal Inject Generator, then copy both hs.app from your SD card and FBI.ciafrom the FBI zip to the input folder
  5. Double click go.bat (or execute go.sh with Terminal on Linux, or double clickMac_inject_launcher.app on Mac)
  6. Copy FBI_inject_with_banner.app to the root of your SD card and reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
  7. Press B on Decrypt9, then go to "EmuNAND Options", then "Miscellaneous...", and select the "Health & Safety Inject" option
  8. Press down once to select FBI_inject_with_banner.app, then press A and confirm to inject
  9. Go to the main menu, then press Start to reboot

Someone remind me: is it better to use Decrypt9 or Hourglass9 to make backups of A9LH sysNAND so that when restoring a backup, we won't lose A9LH?
You use emunand9 to make back ups.
Hourglass9 is the NOOB Equivlant to both decrypt9 and emunand9 so to prevent dumb mistakes since it has only simple options. Nothing too advance and enough for "Curiosty killing cats" :P

If you are using homebrew, There is ftp programs you can use for it. Also the Microsd card manager works as LAN if i am not mistaken. Other than wireless capiable, no there is no simpler way.

Browserhax work on all firmware from 9.0.0 to 11.0.0

Remember that using chain payloading with holding buttons on boot is how those programs are loaded. Is not necessary to use homebrew loader to open them anymore. Just remember what button does what, check the assigned function in the Luma/payload folder on the sd card.

I am trying to follow the Plailect guide from start to finish and I am currently stuck on literally the last step of Part 4 (downgrade to 2.1.0), and I am afraid to proceed without asking for some assurance.

After having everything proceed swimmingly right up the very last point of that part of the guide, I get a black screen rebooting into sysNAND with the sd card inserted.

The guide suggests that "if you get a black screen, boot with the SD card removed then reinsert when you see the home menu". I do just that and it appears to boot fine.

I tried rebooting again with the sd card inserted thinking the above suggested action would correct the problem permanently, but it continues to give a black screen whenever I try to boot with the card inserted.

When I reboot without the sd card and then open a random application, upon trying to exit it to return to the home screen (note that the sd card is now reinserted), the system freezes and only a hard reboot with the card removed rectifies this.

Is this expected behavior, or do I have a more serious issue to contend with?
Do I take it that I can continue to proceed with all the steps laid out in Part 5 of the guide as long as I boot without the card, and to insert it only when I get into the home menu?

I was installing A9LH in my n3ds but when I clicked One click setup it gave me stage 1 and stage 2 failed. Should I start again the whole process?

You are on 2.1 right?

On boot up it's attempting to run luma3ds from the sdcard but this can't be loaded on top of 2.1; hence the black screen.

Continue with the guide and you should go up to 9.2.0 or 11.0.33 and luma3ds will load correctly from the sdcard on those.
