Yifan Lu Announces HENKaku - A New Native Vita Homebrew Enabler for 3.60.

Earlier today, Yifan Lu, a well-known member of the Vita hacking scene famous for the Rejuvenate hack for the Dev Assistants, has announced that a new (native!) Vita homebrew enabler for the latest firmware version, as of writing (3.60), will be arriving tomorrow at "9:00AM UTC".

The new hack, known as "HENKaku", will require the following:
  • A Vita/PSTV running 3.60
  • A memcard with at least 10MB of free space (internal memory is currently not supported!)
  • An FTP client
  • An internet connection**
**Offline support is now available! Launch the exploit straight from the email app without the need for internet access at all! See the unofficial release thread for more details. (Internet connection still required for installation)

This is a small paragraph of Yifan Lu himself explaining what the properties of this new homebrew enabler does:

HENkaku simply lets you install homebrew as bubbles in LiveArea. It is a native hack that disables the filesystem sandbox. It installs molecularShell, a fork of VitaShell that lets you access the memory card over FTP and install homebrew packages (which we create as VPK files). With vita-toolchain, developers have access to the same system features licensed developers have access to as well as undocumented features that licensed developers cannot use (including overclocking the processors).

The hack has been released at http://henkaku.me ~ Furthermore, the hack is said to be exclusive to 3.60, and there is to be no backports for the time being.

Yup probably. Quick google search sorted it out, was as easy as backing up the old one, and replacing the one on the PS TV via Filezilla.

Yup. :)

Also it looks like realboy isn't compatible with PSTV.

Excellent! I can live without eCFW for now, but the whitelist was a real deal breaker until now. I can finally update from 3.20 and play online for the first time :D

Wish it was more reliable though.. it's a pain in the butt to get it working on my PS TV, takes about five minutes to get rolling each time due to crashes.

Yup, no longer works for me, going to stop trying soon. The hack couldn't be any more unreliable, honestly.

Edit: Literally after about 30 minutes of trying I got it to work, but it was completely random...

So i just checked my PS vita and is on 3.55, and my pstv is on 3.57, So as far as i know, i can't use this unless i update to 3.60. So @Voxel Studios Is it wise to update to use this or is there other options for current firmware?

(I just realized if i haven't been updating firmware i haven't been playing vita for long time.)

If you have access to eCFW and you still want that, don't update. In every other situation, update. Check FAQ here.

You can access eCFW on your 3.55 Vita (3.57 blocks eCFW), so you can play PSP backups and homebrew from a PSP-like environment. However, you will need an exploit game to be able to install it, so it isn't really worth it...

I would go ahead and update for HENkaku only if you are on 3.55 or above; for any other below firmware, it's recommended to think about it first. :)

By the way, @yifan_lu, will you be including 'vita-pack-vpk' into the toolchain anytime soon? I see that it is required to build the final .vpk file, however it doesn't seem to be currently incorporated anywhere in the toolchain.
I mean, I already set up the nightly toolchain, and I am able to build the eboot.bin, param.sfo, etc. however I just need the tool to pack the vpk, which doesn't seem to be hosted anywhere without having to compile it, and even then I haven't the foggiest clue as to what to use to compile it...

So do you know where i can find a list of possible games? I would like to check first if i have one already. :)

The only exploit game for 3.55 is Mimina Lyar Chronicles for the US.
Oh okay. Never heard of that one. Besides you already said not worth it.

Another question. I was told there is a way to enable specific games that isn't allowed to be played on pstv. I got a PSTV to play YS Memories of Celcestia on there but wasn't able to. Is it too late for that? Just tell me now so i can tell myself to be more careful next time.

You should be able to follow the whitelist patch v2 tutorial, but instead of email exploit, use Molecular Shell. I linked to it earlier in the thread. :)

Pretty sure the whitelist hack is usable via Henkaku on 3.60 but you'd have to give up eCFW for that.
