I would rather see mGBA with dynarec.
It looks really promising with full GB/GBC and GBA support and it even has antialiasing for audio, which gives every game such a crisp and clean sound.

If mGBA had dynarec to give it better performance, I'd choose it over gpsp anyday.

I agree, mGBA with dynarec would be superior to gpsp. But I thought it rather likely that dynarec for gpsp gets fixed than implemented in mGBA. Or do you know if dynarec for mGBA is planned in deed??

It is planned for the next major release point.

According to the mgba site, dynarec is planned for mid-2016, so it might be coming soon!
I wouldn't count on this. The forum for mGBA says that this has been stalled, and unless this is the usual, communication around the project seems to have gone pretty quiet too...

It's super random, quite honestly, haha. I've made it through an hour of Minish Cap without crashes, but sometimes it'll crash within the first five minutes of starting a game. But yeah, maybe GBA injection might be the best route for now if you just want to play GBA on your 3DS.

Also, no problem! Just glad to help however I can. :)
Actually sorry, just to clarify this, has it ever crashed after say 30mins-1 hour of gameplay or more? I'm thinking I can deal with it if it's either on startup or shortly after the game has loaded, but perhaps not if it could potentially freeze a few hours into playing.

Just trying 1.3.6 now, and it does seem more stable than 1.3.3...also, I found setting the integer scale to 1, using the 1:1 aspect ratio and the LQ2x filter fixes the vertical tearing (although obviously it's now a smaller screen size).

Not all cores are compatible with the filters through, you might get a black screen with some of them if you enable filters.

Is the screentearing fixed in the gba and snes emulators?

I was using GBA, and yes it was. Every now and then there would be a random lag introduced, but going into the Retroarch menu and out of it a few times fixes it up. However, I spoke too soon on stability. Froze on me halfway through a game again. It's a shame, gPSP checks all the boxes, but the stability makes it unusable (for me anyway). I'll just have to hope that AGB_FIRM gets an update to support RTC, or mGBA gets an update to support a stable dynarec implementation

I vote for mGBA +1

Performance is still not on par with gPSP at this point though (for Pokemon Emerald). And the audio seems a bit off also. Here's to hoping the developer is able to implement dynarec!
I am aware of that, I really wish mGBA could catch up in terms of performance with gpsp, if it does, it will blow it out of the water without a doubt.

For those who has problem with retroarch cia with random crashes/freezes, the solution that worked for me is: start the game, close the game, start again without quiting retroarch. Tested on Pokémon LeafGreen.

Genesis Plus GX works horribly on my O3DS. Picodrive (also Retroarch) works at full speed for all games I've tried apart from the original SMS Phantasy Star. GPGX is stuck at 20fps for just about everything I've tried, even a text adventure game.

GPGX is a much more accurate emulator than picodrive, which makes it much slower in general - and picodrive has the benefit of dynarec in this case, whereas GPGX does not (iirc).

Okay, thanks for the insight. I have to say, though, that it doesn't get much less accurate than running at about 33% of the intended speed.

On a related but different note, how come GBA and SNES emulation development for 3DS is still a thing when you can just inject the games? Okay, to be fair, not all SNES games are currently in CIA format but a crapload of GBA ones are and I see people trying to emulate stuff they could just inject and get working perfectly. Is it just for people stuck on flashcards or EmuNAND that for some reason haven't moved into a fully hacked SysNAND yet? (I say that because IIRC that's what you need to inject them).

There are multiple features that you have no access to if you inject. Cheats, turbo mode, save states, and the ability to easily transfer saves comes to mind immediately.

I know this isn't the correct thread but I guess I could find some quick help here so here it goes:
I want to do some testing on the o3ds, I know I won't get dynarecs or anything working, but is there a quick how-to for the new 11.0 exploit?

I tried adding the starter pack and scanning the QR, it crashed the browser apparently and then nothing else.
I'm a noob regarding this. If you can direct me to the correct thread I'd appreciate it too, I can follow instructions but there's so much variety around 3ds hacking that it feels overwhelming.

Old3DS? scanning QR code then directly running the exploit probably won't work.

try resetting browser data, turn off wireless, scan QR code and open browser, set it up until it says wireless is disabled, tap OK, close browser, enable wireless, open browser.
