Not to nag or anything, but would't it be a good idea to give the hardmodder's a rating based on a poll say from 1-5 stars for each one, and then state what their price is for their hardmod and whether they provide any free shipping to and/or fro?

No, we don't care to show our prices as they vary. As for ratings, just ask around. Look at user profiles, etc. Also, to rate someone would mean the customer would have to used more than 1 modder.

Research who you use next time. This is nothing new. Meanwhile, seems like every other hardmodder in the world averages 7 to 10 day turn around time.
It's kind of my fault for my turn around time, because I wasn't able to pay until the day after he went dark the first time this month. (Second time doesn't really count though, because he was only on for 2 minutes)

Unfortunately, from my looking around, there was no one else to use in NA, I would've used you but you don't do o3ds mods :(. Oh well, reading this blog's comments it seems like I may eventually get my 3ds back in a month or two :/

Yes, I should really consider doing the non xl o3ds.

I'd probably pay you extra, knowing how annoying it is and how quick your turnaround is :P

also, this is really late (sorry!) but @vb_encryption_vb did a mod for my standard New3DS back in May and everything was pretty good and fast, so I'd recommend them to anyone. :)

So no one has heard from Hundshamer in a while? :/
Correct. In the past, he'd resurface. My first N3DS with Hundshamer came back with the port in the wrong spot (we agreed it'd be under the batter cover), and the dumps were consistently inconsistent in a way that suggested the CLK line was loose.
I would create 3-5 dumps in succession, without powering on the N3ds, and hashes would not match.
The same SD card reader and connector used with identical NAND chips (in another N3DS) would dump reliably.
So, I dug a bit deeper...
Each dump would have mostly correct data.
However, every dump would also have a few hundred sectors where the first few bytes of the sector were correct, but then all remaining bytes would be the same data repeated until the end of the sector.
By dumping 3-5 times, I could use a "voting" algorithm to get a valid dump as follows:
  1. Open all the dumps and read each sector (one at a time) into buffers
  2. For first-level voting, mark a sector corrupt if any of the following were true:
    1. Sector was all 0xFF (unwritten)
    2. Sector was all 0x00 (unwritten)
    3. Sector has 16 or more bytes repeated at the end of the sector (corrupt ... if encrypted like on 3DS)
  3. Find majority of matching non-corrupt sectors
    1. Thus, if comparing five dumps, at least three must match
  4. Else, accept if majority were showing 0xFF or 0x00
  5. Else, log sector as bad, choose first sector
  6. Write chosen sector as merged output

Hundshamer is generally nice and helpful, both in forums and PM. It's unfortunate that he's lost so much trust this calendar year.

Yeah, I'm ok-ish with waiting a month or two in silence (I have another 3DS, without my saves and eshop account though which is way I'm getting a hardmod), but I at least feel I haven't been outright scammed so... yay? I did see him helping out around the forums which is why I decided to use him and not risk messing something up myself (I suck a soldering, but I can do it).

From now on I'll use CAT5 cables for hardmod.
Another hardmod + a9lh + Luma3DS installation done on a 11.0 2DS (using CAT5 cables you can see under the spoiler):
