I actually never finished Chrono Trigger either. I started playing like 15 years ago and my save game got corrupted halfway through the game. Never picked it up again :(

And... And this is precisely what I was talking about. Like both of you, @KingpinSlim and @fatsquirrel , said; you basically need to immerse yourself with the language. I.. I try and have even tried in the past. My high school had a japanese class but within a few months the teacher bailed on our school because he was teaching two classes at once (the other through video). He would go drive alternatively to the schools and sadly, ours got dumped as it cost him more money in gas. It broke my heart... I was so excited to learn even though I still remember I could be B's and C's and couldn't pronounce right, I was trying and willing to learn and asking questions.

Crud, a lot of bad emotions now and misty eyed to be honest (if you wish to make fun of me go ahead if you think that will help your self-esteem) but it just, to summarize, hurt.
With what you both are telling me to, I feel like the apps are useless and I paid for the extra content for nothing... It.. feels like I should just give up now..
Well at least I made (what seems like an essay) requesting the game I started this topic in the first place for that got me thinking how to motivate someone to work on patches.

@Sliter The voice actors I mean are for instance Arca from I mentioned Summon Night 5. There are times in the game (not battle yells and such) where the character speaks. The voice actress/actor gets paid for those lines of speech. http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/video-games/Summon-Night-5/Arca/ Aya Endo is the voice actress for Arca. Now if GaijinWorks kept the voice acting in where the character speaks then it costs the company more. More actors/actresses the more money. At least I believe that is part of the reason some games are not localized.

You should try the Nintendo DS version.
VERY well done port of the game.
Looks beautiful and plays perfectly. It even adds features, dungeons, quests etc.
Definitely worthwhile.

@Carmentis If you are really that passionate about it then pick up your japanese schoolbook and study.
Get yourself some japanese manga, books and maybe later some tv shows and slowly progress day by day.
It takes time and speaking the language without accent is something that comes later anyway.
If you hear a language being spoken enough times, you will eventually pick up on that without even trying.

To this I must agree. Although I played it fully on the SNES. It's still one of my most fondest memories along with:
Popful Mail
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue (which I STILL know the full lyrics to and sing to this day
Final Fantasy III (IV in japan) which the later is my favorite RPG of all time and I believe always shall. Kefka was perfect and the music was just breathtaking..

@KingpinSlim I do have some Japanese art books and light novels. Like I stated before I just usually stare at the pictures and imagine what might be happening or their saying. I was thinking of ordering some, I'm not sure on the term, kindergarten? Japanese learning books that which how they learn but I would know where to begin. Another thing is like I said, I.. I ask so many questions and there would be no one to answer them.. Sometimes it takes someone to break it down to the simplest equation so to speak for me to understand things...

Anyone here ever played the absolutely fantastic "Live A Live" by Square Enix?
It has the potential to even outshine games like Chrono Trigger.
Received a very good fan translation a few years back.
Absolutely great game.

@Sonic Angel Knight I know, i really should.
I recently bought a DSi XL just because i absolutely loved how the game looks on that screen, but i haven't gotten around to finishing it. Chrono Trigger DS is a remake done right. It preserves the look of the original and adds nice new features. The Dragon Quest DS games however are bad ports. Those new graphics look awful.
Well I mean the DS remake is GAWD LIKE :D
It has one super extra special ending that "SPOILER" supposedly crosses over with the sequeal Chrono cross.... But not that good of a ending, it just gives Chrono the best weapon in the game. More spoiler it has 90% Critical hit rate. :D

Extra bonus content. Better sound effects and audio, A MAP A **** MAP GOD YES. That exactly what phantasy star on genesis needed, and Music test. ALL PRAISE YASUNORI MITSUDA! :toot:

THE GAME IS EPIC. DO IT! Don't make me beg.

If anyone else here didn't play chrono trigger DO IT NOW! Buy it on
Wii Original VC
Buy it on PSN for your psp, Ps vita, Vita tv, PS3 Whatever.
Buy it for your IOS OR ANDROID
Buy it on steam if is on there.
Get it for Nintendo DS, Buy a flashcart i don't care.
Use a emulator. Use Virtual console Injections. WHATEVER. JUST DO IT! :D

You need to play it, play all versions! I'm begging for a WII U VC Release of this and FFIV.

@Sonic Angel Knight The only localized one was for the Sega CD and that's what I spoke of but they did make one for the SNES and PC which you can see here: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/popfulmail/popfulmail.htm There are many, MANY games that have been and should have been but never did or have even hears of. The page has a long list of games located here: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/articles.htm.

@KingpinSlim That Live a Live does look like something right up my alley but with my current backlog I don't think I'd ever get to it honestly.

Well I think since I have brought this topic up I would like to be the one to be the one to take the first step. I have posted on the request list which 3DS game I would like to be translated.
If you are interested in working on the translation and programming and other details, you could set up a post/topic about the translation project and set up a donation option and then we could private message each other the more finite details.
I would like to be the first one to take the chance at the possibility of this happening. It may or may not work but then again that is the risk that I as well as the partner I will be working with me will have chose. If it works this may open the gates to further translation. Thank you very much for your time and I hope that this will be a fruitful future.

Not that i am entirely sure about this but you could just simply make a post about list of games you would like to see translated. Again just leave it up to the individual to decide if they wanna do it, it may also be hard to accept if someone doesn't wanna do it, in the long run, is probably a lot better to learn the language of the games you wanna play.

The question is not if YOU would but if the translator would.
Here's the thing:
A translator is not in the position to charge you money for his translation of a fan-translated game because he doesn't own the rights to earn money with an IP he doesn't own even though the translation is his own work.
A nonprofit fantranslation is grey in legal terms, a translation that was paid for is black.
Best case (and standard scenario): You get a C&D once they find out.
Worst case: They sue the the hell out of you.

i would easily pay for a fan patch translation. no question there legality be damned.

i would also most certinly pay for a menu translation, EXPECIALLY for those familuar with the guy who makes story summaries / walkthroughs of super robot wars games. he presents the story not word for word but easy enough to follow along, while being formatted as a walkthrough, so he comments on the gameplay as well. altho the 'walkthrough'ness of it is certinly lacking, its definatly enough to be considered a walkthrough, and thus their accepted at gamefaqs.

gimme a story summary walkthrough + menu patch? fuck yeah id pay. for some games top dollar even.

Tales of destiny DC menu patch? easy. ace attorney 10 menu patch + translated script? for sure.

also chrono trigger ds is nice, but i highly highly recommend playing theough the chrono trigger snes lavos awakening mod, it really makes the game shine, and then there is that sequal flames of eternity i think its called that straight up continues it. plus you get to play with frog in his human glen form, and early magus. the story in the sequal is so fucking godlike, PLUS it sets things straight up nicely for chrono cross.
