To my knowledge any CFW that lets you run sysNAND (Such as rxTools, PastaCFW, MiniPasta and Luma I think) should let you install CIA's to the sysNAND, most people recommend either of the Pasta's as they are entirely sysNAND based CFW as they only boot sysNAND with signature checks patched.
Well i dunno, the guide never mentioned installing cia to sysnand. Only after you install a9lh to the system and then enable luma and inject healty and safety to the nand which is all done on emunand before tranfering emunand to sysnand did it allow sysnand to install cia.

So if anyone knows for sure about the gba vc games require double cia install to emunand and sysnand would be nice, or the person asking could just try it and find out.

Ok so basically I am completely new to the 3ds hacking scene and I want to know where to get started, what I'll need and what I should be aiming for... I've heard bout stuff like installing cia or using a9lh but I don't know which is better/easier. Is it even more worthwhile to buy a flashcart? Can someone tell me where to start? Just to let you know I have an original 3ds that is 9.4.0-21E. It is an Australian 3ds (which should mean its PAL and similar to what you would find in Europe). And the games I have (I've heard sometimes you can use games to do stuff?) are ocarina of time, mariokart 7 and pokemon y.
If you're feeling confident in yourself you can setup A9LH which is the best possible hack currently available to us, have a look at this link and see if the procedure seems to scary for you, if you don't feel confident in taking such a large step into hacking you could start with a menuhax+emuNAND setup which is much easier to set up, however, most people no longer use it in favour of A9LH, have a look at this link and decided which one seems better suited to you.

If you are running an emuNAND then GBA games need a double installation, if running A9LH which is just sysNAND then they only need to be installed once, I used to use rxTools & reiNAND and that's how it worked back then, if Luma changed something then my knowledge is outdated.

Thanks for the hep but browserhax will not work for me :/ I downloaded the starter file and put the boot.3ds and 3ds file onto the root of my sd card like it said then changed the theme and went to the browser and then to the website but its just blank besides this little line in the corner and when i click it i get an error.

Browserhax can be a bit finicky at times, make sure there is a boot.3dsx at the root of your SD card and when you go to click on the line (Which is actually a volume slider) make sure to zoom all the way in and try and click on the most right-hand side of the slider, it may take a couple of tries but with some luck you should eventually be able to get into the homebrew launcher.

Hi all, im on arm9loaderhax v2 + luma 5.5. Im also having a gateway card, but that doesnt matter for the problem i have. I have a lot of freezes while browsing in my home menu or while setting date and time and even in games (playing via gateways luma payload). After a freeze i have to hold power button for some seconds to shut down my N3DS. When trying to turn my 3ds on, the blue LED turns on, but the screen stays black. Sometimes by blue LED turns off after 2 seconds (which i guess is, because the sd card could not be read). Using fsck on linux, my sd card seems to be ok. I already tried the original old Toshiba SD and a custom SanDisk CLASS 4 one with 8GB. Im on SysNAND 11.0. Anyone has an idea?

PS. Sometimes i have to wait half a day and turning my 3DS on works again, which makes me think about some heating problem?!
PPS: Ive already tried deleting lumas config.bin which doesnt help.

So now I have downgraded to 9.2.0 but I can't get browserhax or anything working again... do I have to put the starter files back on the SD card?

Hello I am new to the forum and to 3ds hacking. I have read that you need firmware less than 11.0 in order to hack. So I was wondering if buying a refurbished one from nintendo would be on a good firmware or if I need to buy a new one. Thanks for the help.

Browser based exploits (such as browserhax or 2xrsa) are often unstable and crash frequently, but they can sometimes be fixed by doing the following steps.

  1. Open the browser, then open the browser settings
    1. Scroll to the bottom and Initialize Savedata (it also may be called Clear All Save Data)
    2. Try the exploit again

I get a black screen on boot with an Old 3DS which has been downgraded from the Gateway menu in the past
If your Old 3DS/Old 3DS XL has been downgraded to 4.5 from the Gateway menu in the past, your CTRNAND has leftovers from one or more previous FIRMs, and this causes issues with the CTRNAND code. This is not an issue with Luma itself, but rather with the GW downgrade process which doesn't do any cleanup and leaves CTRNAND in a messy state. Thankfully there's a method for cleaning your CTRNAND (at least the parts required by Luma3DS to operate normally):

  1. Get the NTR FIRMs package from here and the NAND FIRMs package from here
  2. Copy the O3DS firmware.bin file from the NTR FIRMs package to the luma folder
  3. From the NAND FIRMs package, copy O3DS NATIVE90.cia (if your NAND is 9.0/9.2) or O3DS NATIVE104.cia (if your NAND is updated to the latest version), plus O3DS AGB.cia andO3DS TWL.cia to the SD card
  4. Hold the SELECT button to open the Luma3DS configuration menu and make sure theSysNAND is updated option is turned on if you are fixing SysNAND and viceversa, and press START to reboot; if not booting from A9LH boot Luma3DS again
  5. Open your favorite cia installer (the guide has been tested successfully with FBI 2.1). If you don't have one, it's outside the scope of this guide, look on GBATemp to check how to get your first cia installed
  6. Install the .cia files you copied in step 3
  7. If you have other NANDs to fix, repeat the process from step 3 to step 6
  8. Luma3DS should now be functioning normally, you can remove the firmware.bin from theluma folder and configure the SysNAND is updated option as needed

I am on 9.2 still trying to complete the hack but when I use luma3ds it says i'm on emu 11.0? I was afraid I updated but my official firmware still says 9.2. What gives?

If you have Arm9LoaderHax installed isn't this the part when you use Hourglass9 to restore an EmuNand backup?
regardless, you're safe to update SysNand so long as you're sure you have A9LH (And are using Luma with it, but that's a given)

If you followed the guide to the very end. You should have the LumaCFW installed. Check settings and if you see "SYS" Before the firmware version, then you have cfw installed and your okay now. :)
