Hacking SD card options...

I'm planning to buy a new SD card mainly to store my Gamecube games and loadiine VC injects, I want to get rid off my second HDD.

What's the max size for SD to use on Wii U? According Nintendo it works only up to 32gb?

I have a 128GB SD in my WiiU, no problem at all... I have also read here on GBATemp that 256GB will also work.

I think a 64gb should be enough for my gcn collection, vWii homebrew stuff, and Wii U VC injects. Do you know if there's a limit size on vWii side? Also, how does compare SD vs HDD on nintendont?

I think you should be good 64GB on the vWii. I am not educated with vWii but I would use HDD on Nintendont. I use it just because personal preference but I hear USB is way better than SD (in alot of things)

As far as compatibility with Nintendont and SD, @CJB100 has stated that while Nintendont does work on SD, USB storage options are recommended.

64GB should work fine on vWii for regular homebrew though.

This is mostly accurate. Nintendont and USB Loader GX both support loading GameCube games from SD in a folder setup similar to the USB set up. SD:/games/Title [GAMECODE]/game.iso. See the Installing Games Manually section of my stickied vWii guide if that folder setup is fuzzy for you.

As far as SD limitations, the Wii and Wii U only officially support SD and SDHC cards, which go to up to 64GB, but some 64GB cards are SDXC, so if you want to play things safe, go for a 32GB card or make sure the 64GB you buy is SDHC. However, Wii U can use most SDXC cards (up to 2TB) that are thrown at it, and there has been a user able to get vWii to read up to 256GB SDXC, so it appears some SDXC cards work.

I've noticed that 32 GB and 64GB seem to be the most bang for buck cards anyways.

I always opt for microSD + adapter, since that opens up more options in terms of device choices. Currently rocking a Sandisk 128gb micro for the Wii U, but recently 256gb micro have been going down in prices to $150, so do with that info what you will.
