doesn't look difficult at all

It isn't at all, it's 4 solders, and the hardest part is probably disassembling the console. It's hard to mess up the solders at the board side, and though the pins are closer on the adapter side, it's also not very difficult. In fact I plan to do it for my sister tonight.

i know..i hope really for a software downgrade version instead of hardmod..

If you're honestly worried about it you can feel free to send your 3DS to me and I'll do it for you. I've done pretty precise soldering before, it's no big deal.

Eh, my sister changed her mind I guess and didn't want to go through with it. I did take it apart though just to look at the board. For anyone that wants to try it, the pads aren't ridiculously small, but you should definitely buy as thin of a wire as you can 28-30 awg wire, and take your time soldering it.

EDIT: Sidenote, this is terrible advice. I'm a Computer Engineer so I sorta am used to just speaking as if you already knew what you were doing to my friends and classmates. Just PLEASE make sure you know how to solder properly.

Better learn electronic basics before you do anything, because you just gave bad advice.

1. Get 28 - 30 awg wire.

2. Yes, you can trash a pad as many here on the forum have done, because they thought it was easy and applied to much heat or simply ripped the pad off by pulling on it.

I'm doing pretty well considering I'm a junior studying computer engineering. I've also done PCB soldering before, and know the do's and don'ts of soldering. Just because I objectively find it easy doesn't mean it's bad advice. You should know for yourself if you're capable or not.

The bad advice, was saying use the smallest wire you can find....

Well, I didn't know the gauge off hand. If you walk into a store they probably won't have wire much thinner than 40 awg anyways unless you go out of your way, but yeah. I apologize. Maybe I was wrong in saying the absolute thinnest. But you do want thin wire. I've seen people on similar mods trying to make it work with lower than 24, and honestly you're just going have a bad time with that.

Hey everyone, I am completely new to all of this. I have a new 3ds xl on firmware 11.0. My main goal is to run emulators on it, and I understand that in order to do so, I need to have an entry point to homebrew. I have the launcher files on my sd card but no way of accessing the homebrew launcher since there are no working entry points on 11. My big question is HOW? How can I download older firmware, one that supports primary entry points like 9.2, onto my 3ds? I dont have any nands from when i had older firmware, and i understand that the files are encrypted, so would this hard mod allow me to downgrade to 9.2 so that I can access homebrew and be on my way to emulating? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you just need entrypoints to play emulator, then you're in luck since browserhax and menuhax is now working on Ver. 11.0.0-33.

Hey thanks for responding! I actually figured that out literally minutes after posting haha. I should have done just a tiny bit more digging before posting. Thanks for caring to help though! So like I said I'm brand new to this and it's really really fun. I'm now trying to crack my 2ds on 6.0. Going to try rxtools and the homebrew loader app since browserhax is giving me an error everytime. Cheers!

just a theory, if one could access the gateway menu on 11.0...would they be able to use the downgrade function?
Iirc the Gateway menu only shows up after a successful arm9 takeover. So technically, if you can get into the GW menu, you could probably use their downgrade option, because iirc it replaces files directly on the NAND.
Unless you're talking about the "Gateway ripoff stolen code-er I mean time machine". In that case, no.

Well, you got your answer. The Gateway menu (iirc) only shows up after a successful arm9 takeover, (which of course we don't have) including from the HBL.
