As of today it is a clone because they are too similar, when they will be 100% different then we can call it a fork

as of now Luma3DS is Reinand with 2-3 different features that so it is a clone for now
uh... no. learn your shit
reinand doesn't have exception handlers, 11.0 svcBackdoor reimplementation, system module loading from sd, removed anti-dg check, properly working CRO patches, etc..

Except, that's not the definition of a fork. The definition of a fork was detailed in the above Wikipedia link. If you are unsure of the definition, please read.

A person could change the source code to contain a picture of a potato, and it would still be a fork. Luma 3DS is a legitimate fork of ReiNAND that fully complies with GPL. The fact that you personally have no use for the features that differenciate it from ReiNAND is irrelevent to whether or not it is a fork or 'clone'.

Hum, TBF, I don't see what Luma3DS has to do with that. It's done with external software (Uncart, D9, JKSM...).
The CFW is what enables those tools to work. e.g. Converted carts won't run without signature patches after all and tools are much more restricted when running from homebrew.

I know, but we were kinda talking about Luma3DS features. What you are mentioning, all CFW that support sig patches (so, probably all the public ones except Cosmo) can do. :)

Sorry, it was meant as a response to this post which was about CFW in general.

  • force New3DS clock speed in all games, to reduce loading times/performance issues/etc (Feels like cheating in the same it gives me a gameplay adventage vs others)
I assume this means you're using a 1981 IBM PC 5150, since anything newer would be giving you an advantage over others.

I think missed the point.

Speedruns that aren't tool-assisted forbid the use of any unofficial method of playing games, and all save states.
Use of official emulated versions or backwards compatibility features (such as the PS2's ability to read PS1 CDs faster than a PS1 can) that help you go fast are encouraged, but unofficial stuff such as the Nintendo Should Have Done This Themselves ability to use the New 3DS to improve the sometimes abysmal frame rates of old 3DS games like Metal Gear Solid 3D aren't. So, yeah. Speedruns with this is cheating and cheating is bad mmkay.

Oh, you mean competitive, networked multiplayer games? It might help you avoid framerate crashing griefing attacks...

of course if you can't force New3DS clock speed for things like in speedrunning, then don't use it. but most people are not doing things like that, they just want to play games and stuff, so enabling it usually doesn't do anything bad. :P

Hi Guys I am trying to boot in Luma3ds but I am not being able to. I once made this downgrade to 4.5 using gateway. I saw in the Luma faq page itself one have to install a few cias in emunand for the Luma work right. The cias are O3DS AGB, O3DS TWL and O3DS NATIVE104 for other firmware versions. My emunand is at 11.0 and when I try to install this Cia O3DS NATIVE104 gives error. I have to install another file? There is a NATIVE110 O3DS by any chance?

Is there a possibility for a CFW such as this to - in the same vein as the "enable GBA BIOS" option - have an option such that the 1:1 scaling for DS and GBA games is the default? I prefer that option to the upscaled, blurrier default option and it'd be nice to have that as the default instead of needing to remember to hold Start before launching any of those apps. No biggie, of course, just wondering if that's something that could be easily implemented.

Hi, recently I installed a patched TWL_Firm and followed this guide to restore the unpatched firms. However, my ds games still aren't working.

Then I remembered that I deleted some purple files in FBI>Titles. Could that be the reason?

No have to deal with holding a button to enable 1:1 mode for DS/GBA Games

I'm having an issue launching DS games with Luma CFW on SysNAND.

When I try to launch an official DS cartridge, my system hangs at a black screen.

I've tried:
Following the instructions at
https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/FAQ-and-Troubleshooting
under
"I have issues with GBA/DS/DSiWare games and I have installed a patched AGB/TWL FIRM cia in the past"

Restored my NAND from my ARM9LOADERHAX_NAND backup.
Formatted with TinyFormat
Formatted with Format System Memory

3DS Retail cartridges still work.
I followed this guide to install and set up Luma CFW on SysNAND:
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

Is there any way that I can fix this? I wanted to be able to use my Acekard 2i again.

Have you tried Apache's TWL Slot-1 Launcher?

I have, it does the same thing that retail carts do. Hang on black screen.

I'm running Luma CFW v5.5 on SysNAND
Absolutely NO official retail carts work. I can still access my DS profile settings via System Settings.
Do DSiWare (including DS Wi-Fi settings) still work?

System Settings > Data Management > DSiWare: Able to Access, Move, Delete, ETC.
System Settings >Other Settings > Profile > Nintendo DS Profile: Able to access

Hardware: OLD 3DS (non-XL)
Luma CFW: v5.5
ARM9LOADERHAX SysNAND 11.0.0-33U

Restore NAND from Backup (ARM9LOADERHAX_SysNAND)
Install TWL_FIRM for OLD 3DS linked on the LUMA Wiki: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Other-features-and-notes
