Just confirmed, despite still having no save data for LEGO Star Wars, I can copy those files over just fine. But, when I attempt to copy over LoZ save data, the Wii states I need to have played the game at least once.

Little disappointing, but then wouldn't that add another game to the list that can be used for installing HBC?

Possibly, but honestly not terribly interested, as LoZ Skyward Sword can currently go as high as $55 still. Still searching to see why the hacked save files would transfer when the other didn't.

True true, but some people may already own that game and not any of the others.

Could it have something to do with the fact that that's not am actual retail game?

I would figure it has something to do with the way the files were hacked together, yes, but I'm just not familiar enough with hex code / IDA to even make heads or tales of these files.

I think this thread can be closed. I have been staring at IDA screens for a long time now, and I am just in over my head on this one. I'll stick to coding as it appears in my IDE lol, back to my original project.

You guys followed a tut to vwii hack right? You can put the save on the sd but before you load from it you have to start the game and run the game then load from the save I think. Oh it's just been so long since I've had to do this with games I really dont remember. As I recall though the updater for this game was patching an issue for corrupt saves. You could probably use it to patch a save that is modded. Also, depending on the permissions it has you may be able to use it for other things. But, as I said before never looked at it. Fix94 did and said he didnt think there was anything there. Who knows.
Also, with IDA you really need to have some sort of an idea what you are looking for. In the case of wii hacking the best place would be the area getting patched by the updater. For me I would look at an area that I could jump out of cafe2wii. (But thats just me Im always chasing the gold)

I sincerely appreciate the help guys, and with time I'm sure I'll grow better at the details of everything. But right now I can tell my spot is more with my current project: writing easy to use libraries for making Wii and Wii U games and programs with. I'm way far behind on the Wii side of things obviously, but I want to get that done first just so I have the experience, and then bring that over to the Wii U when some less low-level coding will be helpful. Then I'll prolly help manage the wiki's for end-user ease of use.

I just thought of something. The original Twilight Hack, can that be updated? I understand that Nintendo at one point made a system menu update to catch the overflow glitch with the save file, is there any chance that can simply be evaded by causing a similar but nevertheless different overflow to make the hack work?

Of course, I guess this wouldn't work, as Nintendo must check all three save slots and check epona's name to be in bounds for all of them...guess I answered my own question, hahah.

Does it require the game? Obviously, some games like the exploitable ones allow you to copy over save data onto the Wii system from SD assuming you set up the folders in the correct way on the SD card
You can't restore a savegame if you don't have the ticket for that game.
The ticket/tmd is installed when you insert the disc and watch the animated banner on the disc channel. (no need to launch and play it, just seeing the banner is enough)
So, you'd at least require the game to allow you to put the save back to the console.

If you plan to find a vulnerability of the system menu, it will have to be on the save manager, because the save is not accessed other way.
And the save content shouldn't be accessed by the savegame manager, only the savegame icon and game name is.
At least, that's how I understand it. I might be wrong, but if you are trying to hack a save for a system menu exploit then I suppose any game would fit, not only zelda (due to savegame data specific to Zelda not being accessed by the system menu, only by the game).

hacking the vWii with a save will require the game.

Edit:
I see you found out that you need to play the game at least once.
You also requested to close this thread, I think it's a good idea. these threads usually attract lot of noob and trolls, that will be better closed.
Good luck on your other projects, learning and coding, and also helping with the wiki.
