So I just found and bought an EZ for the DS Lite. I have had an R4 for the DSL since I have the console itself.

Now I'm trying to run GBA games with the EZ card. If I launch them from the R4 wood, I get a white screen after the gameboy logo.

If I run the ROMs from GBAExploader 0.58b0MX I get the same results. If I run them with GBAExploader 0.58b I manage to get them working, but I only tried one and I got stuck with weird sounds and graphics.

Am I missing something? Do I have to modify a setting, or patch the roms?

Do I need GBAExploader or can Wood take care of the ROMs with 3in1 v2?

Thanks in advance!

wood definitely has the gba / 3in1 compatibility built in (almost sure you don't need to use exploader but I can't remember if there were some issues with certain Rev. of the 3in1, maybe exploader is the most compatible in this respect).

Do you have a retail cart you can backup to .gba and test?

I tested a patched gba for EZ IV for advance and it works with Exploader. But not with Wood. I read that Wood has compatibility for my rev of 3in1, and I wanted to make sure if I'm missing something :(

Oh sorry, I read the message wrong.
Wood supports the 3in1 built-in. Did you try both, the NOR and the PSRAM to store the ROM? You should be able to launch games that are written to NOR directly from the DS' menu.

It seems to work loading the ROMs into the NOR. But how do I keep the saves? The moment I flash other ROM the save goes away, obviously.

Also, suddenly GBAExploader stopped working, it get stuck at loading, it doesn't display any game or folder and I can't change the mode. It always worked before, and it keeps working with 3in1 out, but with the cart in, GBAExploader freezes.

I have the same problem. I can't load any GBA games. I am using original R4 with Wood. Once the game is loaded it gets stuck at the gameboy logo (no advance logo, sometimes advance logo is pixelated). Doesn't work either PSRAM or NOR.

Why do you use gba exp loader? Just use the wood kernel.
The save from the NOR normally gets dumped when writing a new rom to it. In addition to that gbaexploader should contain a way to dump the saves. Just do it before flashing a new game and put the old save back after having changed the game.

To kirstpo:
Are you sure that your ROMs are correctly dumped? It sounds more like a problem with the ROMs.

As I told you, GBAExploader freezes for some reason. It is true that with NOR, my saves are there. But RAM method is faster. What's the difference?

To kirstpo: I had the same issue but the problem was that the cartridge was not perpeftly in. Try pushing it more, or taking it out and in, or blowing, you know, the usual.

And in relation to the save? If I only play by PSRAM, how are they managed or stored? And what about the GBAExploader thing?

Saves are stored in SRAM, the SRAM is partitioned in two parts; one for PSRAM game's save and the other for NOR game's save. Depending on your how your GBA settings are set, it will autobackup saves for PSRAM games on reboot of the DS.

You can also manually backup the save, it is buried in the menu options somewhere.

Saves for NOR games are autobackup'ed the first time only, after that saves for NOR need to be backed up manually.

So, say I load games in PSRAM, and on reboot the Wood R4 takes the save. How do I know? Anything I can look for? Any help on the GBAExploader issue?

You should see a quick and brief window saying it backed up your save, unless you disabled automatic gba backup in the settings.

Bear in mind this doesn't protect you from an already dead battery, which will end up backing up a blank file if your battery is already dead.

Backup of PSRAM saves in GBA ExpLoader happens on the next time of startup of GBA ExpLoader. This doesn't protect you if you jump back and forth between different loaders, this will wipe out your save. You are advised to stick to one loader, and backup your saves from the microsd to the computer occationally; microsd that use FAT and FAT32 as the file system format occationally get corrupted.

As for GBA ExpLoader, the menu options are on the bottom screen at all times:

(Button you press) Action it does

The only thing about GBA ExpLoader is if you want to turn off multi save by editing the config file. It also has manual backup options. The mode your in is clearly defined by the color of the bottom window, unless your color blind; It is also labeled what mode your in within the bottom window.

I know how GBAExploader works, the case here is that it freezes when I open it and I can't change modes or do anything.

I'll look for the GBA backup option in Wood R4.

EDIT

OK, now I see the backup option in Wood settings. Thanks a lot, that's what I was looking for.

Is there any way to clear the NOR and leave it empty?

Thanks.

Is it the '0' games issue you are getting? If so, it could be your battery. Try dropping back to GBA Exploader v0.53, it should bring the file browser back up so you can load a game. If this works, you can then go back to using v0.58b0. Bear in mind though, the '0' games issue will reappear soon after in v0.58b0 if your battery is done, or badly installed.

You could flash a blank 32mb rom to it. I have attached one below.
