I saw a thread like this on another forum and was going to make one, never got around to it though.

So what was the first job you lost or do you have any good stories about losing a job? Personally I do not (never lost one, never really had either a throwaway job or a job that was not mostly self employed/contractor) but it is often a fun discussion.

first job was fast food, and boy was it a pain. I would work a 8-10 shift depending if the cleaning got done fast enough (night crew) and I would be forced to take my lunch an hr after being there, then not get another break for another 5hrs after. I quit that after a month of torture.

after that I went to retail did fairly well there but go fed up with being used as management without the pay. 3yrs of that was enough and then to my latest job...which i really liked was a call center. due to health reasons I missed a good amount of days in the last month, but with notes from doctors and even regular visits to get the condition alleviated. after all of that, even though I was always in the top 30% of everyone there, they deemed it was unfair to other employees to keep me during all of this.

First jobs were the worst for me. You have no idea how to apply, a terrible resume/CV, a job market where people are fighting for even that one McDonalds job so I had to keep applying, get no rejection letter and then living on hope that each day I will get a job while living with my parents.

Cinema assistant, furniture salesman, warehouse operator is what I did in the first two years after school. Then I got a job as a bingo caller for 6 years until I quit last year and joined a recruitment agency and currently work in a factory.

If I can offer some advice, it's to keep updating your resume even when you have a job, keep checking the job market and have an emergency savings fund.

definitely, local unemployment office helped my build up my resume more, and I got a few apps in as many places as I could get in yesterday. I really wish I had the ability to go back to school right now.

First real job that required a W-2 and all that legal stuff was a greenhouse laborer. It straight up sucked. It was hot, humid, and physically demanding. I have low stamina to begin with. When it was hot (every day) that drained my strength even more, and when it rained, it only got more humid.

The only "fun" or "relaxing" job was watering the plants. And even that was not all that great because the hoses leaked and made your hands smell like cheap copper. The whole time you were watering you just kinda thought "man how can I milk this to last longer" and even that sucked. You just ended up bored. And hot.

It did pay well though. I was making well over 2005's minimum wage for sure. Anyways, sorry you lost your job.

Sounds awful. Hope you've had much better jobs since then. Got an interview with a place I've worked for before. And hoping for the best afterword

get no rejection letter
Does that change for other people as time goes on? Been applying for things lately and reply rates seem to be about 1%, 2% if I include "I am out of the office" and "we got your application" sent 1 minute after I pressed submit (several of which have denied all knowledge when I follow up with a phone call or in person in the case of agencies). I can't imagine there are that many people applying for the things I am going for either, on the other hand speaking to those in other professional fields it could be.

Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant

an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
