Building a PC for a relative who is a freelance architect. At the moment it has a Dual Core E5400@ 2.7GHz and a 4gb RAM with a motherboard that I forgot to write the name down. I fitted a Crucial 250gb SSD last year as a temporary measure but a lot of the programs are requiring a lot more power.

So far I used Amazon to build up this list.

£400 is a general limit but is that good enough?

Sounds fine for CAD but for Photoshop that's a stretch what will you be trying to render and in what resolution?

750 ti is a pretty decent card, sure it might not be optimal, but it runs photoshop just fine.

source: Use photoshop with 750 ti and i7 4770k

since you are getting a h81 board there is no point in getting a K processor, so you should try to squeeze a 4790 in there instead of the 4690K
EDIT: or make it a 6600 build (skylake) instead
Is that because the 4690k is underpowered for the h81 board?

no, becaus the 4690k has a K on the end. which means it is overclockable, but you cannot overclock on a h81 board. it costs more than the regular 4690, and you won't have any benefit from it because you can't overclock
Thanks. How much of a boost can I expect from fitting a 4790 from the 4690?

I would highly recommend these parts for your relative-

Let me explain. The Xeon E3 1230v5 is a true beast. It provides i7 6700K performance(thanks to multi-threading) for a lot less $$$.Besides htat, being a Xeon cpu, nothing beats it at stability over stressed periods of time. And since your relative is an architect, give him an extra 8gig of ram, he'll need it.
Since there you haven't mentioned it anywhere, I shall assume that he doesn't game. In that case, it might be more cost effective to replace the GTX 750Ti with a more affordable graphics card as GPU acceleration in apps like Ps or CAD apps won't show much difference in low end gpus while you'll notice a huge improvement over the i5 if you opt for the Xeon.

i dont know why tv manufactures put the hdmi ports in dumb locations so the cables have to stick out, and then down, putting strain on the ports. Instead of having the ports along the bottom edge of the tv facing downwards.
