When you signed up on this website there was a checkbox named "I agree to the terms and rules." but it seems you haven't read them ;) Please have a read before posting again. Thanks!

Oh damn. I'm truly sorry about breaking that rule. I have seen so many of those terms things on so many websites that at this point I figured that they were all basically the same. Also I never planned to had any bad intentions when writing out that question if that's what you were thinking. I'm just a person who wanted to play a bit of this project so I could get a field of how this game will work out, but I guess I could just play the Japanese one instead.

I don't plan to do much on this site except put a nice comment or ask a question. Really I only found it because of this project. But I'll try to be bit more wary to what I type. And again I'm sorry for not looking over that rule. Although now I want to know how these people on this project will do, said thing that is not allowed on this site, when its finally completed. But I guess the answer will come sooner or later.

Thanks again and I hope you have a nice week.

No worries, it's okay as a "first infraction", many people do that and then turn into exemplary members after their first post ;)

Anyway, the legal way of doing this kind of stuff is that the translation groups will only provide a patch which will add the translated content to a ROM of the original game. How you get yourself such a ROM is up to you :yaynds:

Enjoy the temp!

read the last few page, see that the project owner is still active.
See the first post you quoted without reading, there's a "last edited on 2016.04.x" which means that the progress percentage was very recently updated, so yes the project is still active.

Isn't it available in English on PS3?

Sorta.

The DS version plays differently, it features a pure turn-based battle system rather than a hybrid. You can also change the position of your characters so they take less damage from attacks (and deliver less dmg from your own attacks, in turn) akin to an old school RPG. The PS3 version is more of a hybrid battle system.

Can't wait for the English version of this. I've recently finished it on PS3 but I prefer Dragon Quest style battle system of the DS version. Anyone knows if the French version will be available in the near future or if it has been cancelled? Thanks!

I'm grateful this project is active and seems like it might make 100% some day:D although I've recently bought ps3 few months ago and ni no kuni was around 20% of the reason for it, with other 80% being kingdom hearts, as in my profile image, it would be good to play this game on my NDS.
Thanks for continuing the project for so long time.

I've finally fixed my watching of this thread so that it sends me e-mail messages again (hopefully), because it just sort of stopped at some point and I lost track of what was/wasn't happening here. Sorry :c
Nonetheless, the project is still alive. We did have a lot of people disappear on us (as we expected, because of the sheer scope of the project and people not really knowing what they're getting into), but we are definitely a couple of strong members richer than what we were working with throughout most of the project so far.

I can't believe that this is actually happening. I am currently at a moment where I can't get the PS 3 or the version of this great game on it, so I was just kinda planning to wait it out until I can get it and play the Japanese ROM in the mean time. But then I found this lovely page that had given me hope. I can't wait until this project is done and I can play it. Also I thank you and everyone else on this project greatly for doing this.

Thought I do have a few questions.

<snip>
2. Do you have any idea when this project may be completed? It's okay if you can't give me a data if you are not sure.

Thanks again for doing this. I know for a fact that you are going to make a lot of people besides me happy when this project is done.
It's hard to really give a good percentage of where we're at, since going over translated files to fix grammar and make everything flow more nicely (and actually fit within the dialogue boxes :P) is also necessary, but does not really make any "progress" in the project, just more quality and playability. It really is a huge project needing a lot of work on almost every aspect, so I really wouldn't be able to give any date or even estimate of when the project might be finished. I just hope you'll settle for knowing that we are still working on this :)

Nonetheless, the project is still alive.

Just to echo what Zkarts said (though I'm sure mine is less coherent because I'm typing this between meetings at work), this is a *massive* project. We have over 30,000 blocks of text (block == often more than a sentence), so when we say that we're ~40% done our first translation pass, keep in mind that we still have TONS of text to translate. Most of the main cities have 800-2300 blocks of text (this usually means a visible screen of dialogue text). Even on a good week for me, that's something like 3 full time work days of translation (assuming an 8 hour work day) per city. Everyone on the team has a job and a family and so forth, so progress gets made on evenings and weekends, so thanks for your patience everyone! Note that timezones help us, though, and someone is usually online looking at stuff, or translating, or playtesting, etc at all times of the day.

We've had a couple of people recently start to tackle the massive list of Imagen names - not just the names of the beasties themselves, but each critter has ~5 suggested names so that when you catch one in the wild you can either name it yourself or choose from a few pre-populated names that fit the character's style. This is IIRC a list of 2500 beast names, and while the people working on it are having fun coming up with alternate names, they are also limited by the short character count that the names have so it isn't super easy to just run through and come up with hundreds / thousands of clever names off the top of your head.

As part of the translation team, I gotta say that this is the biggest thing I've ever worked on, and keeping all the names of things consistent between all of our translators (past and present) is a real challenge, which is why we're going to need some time to edit the text heavily once we've finished the translation.

We also haven't had much time to really establish consistent character voices for all the main characters, but it is something we often discuss and intend to fix as part of the editing process. People say, "I don't want a perfect game, I just want a playable one" but when you play the game with a solid translation it just feels more like a real legit game, not a hacked up ROM. So, we're going to take the time to translate things and edit things so that they flow.

How much time? I have no idea, but we've made very decent progress since our big membership drive back in December.

We *might* need a couple more translators, but it would need to be people that had time to devote to the project and a *very* high level of Japanese proficiency, since bad translators in the past have actually slowed things down and require other people's time and attention to get them up to speed on how things should be done, and to fix their translations after we thought that they had finished with them. If this sounds like you (the GOOD translator, not the bad haha) send me a PM and I can send you the translator test. Note that I definitely learned the hard way and will be pretty picky about things this time around.

Anyway, even if we don't update every month with staggeringly higher percentages, know that the team is putting all their hearts into this translation and will have it to you as soon as we can! (^_^)

is the op updated or, has there been more progress since then?

Cyan already mentioned that and no patch yet. Keep read the first page in the near future for more update progress.

Check the first page and read it again:

yes i understand that. My only question was if 49% and 90% were where it's still at as of right this second, or if the original post has yet to be updated again.

~~~~ FYI: We could still use some JLPT N2/N1 qualified translators. PM me if that's you and you have lots of time to spare! :) ~~~~
We are *always* making progress, have no fear! (^_^)
It's the summer, so progress has definitely slowed - but not stopped. Lots of people have kids or time off from work (or both!) that they are spending their free time on. We've fixed a whole pile of bugs that our playtesters documented, and people are getting more hours into a playtest without noticing weird things, which is nice. We're still finding the odd dialog that is missing a translation just because of the way the ripped text is organized, but we've fixed quite a lot.
We're *almost* done translating the Casino town (Del Mokahl) which is the 8th area in the game, and decent progress has been made on the 9th area (The Boarg Empire) though Boarg is more than 2000 blocks (not sentences, BLOCKS == as many as 4 lines of Japanese) of text so that is gonna take a while. That's also the biggest area left in the game - a couple are ~1200 blocks, but the rest are all under 700 so we should make faster progress the closer we get to the final area (#18 - Nanashijo / Castle Arcano).
For actual numbers, though, as per your question... we're currently sitting at:
Text: 51.25% of the text translated, ~12% of that has been edited.
Images: 100% of the images have been translated, and of that 85% have been photoshopped.
NOTE: The OP says 90% images, but that was 90% of the previous translated %. It looks like the image % has gone down, but it's actually more images that have been photoshopped into English.
I hope that helps! :)
thank yuo so much! Amazon allows imports for japanese games now, and the special edition of Ni no Kuni is relatively cheap. I was wondering if i should order it for the book and the game, or if i should jsut wait for the translation. I think I'll do both, now :)
    I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
    @BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
    For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.
