I'm now playing Link's Awakening (DX) in RetroArch. My first playthrough of this game ever and it's great!
I'm at a point now where I think I need the bow & arrow to progress any further. The shop in town has one to sell, but it'll cost me a whopping 980 rupees! Is this the only way in the game to acquire it? Or is there another way? Because of the high price, it always seems to me the game is offering me an easy but expensive alternative to actually go looking for it myself.
So, should I keep searching or should I just buy it?
(Don't want to look up a walkthrough - If there is another way, I still want to find it myself. I only want to know if I should start searching at all)

Its super easy to win rupees every time at the prize grabber store two screens down. Find the right spot and just keep winning until you make the 1k rupees nessesary.

You can steal it, but that comes with a whole lot of negatives. Like never being able to live through reentering the store.
And your name is changed to "Thief" for the rest of the game.
All the dialogs stay the same, but instead of "Link" everyone calls you Thief.

Well once you decide to steal, there is nothing holding you back as you can steal anything in store.
Not really. if you steal the bow, the next time you enter the store the shopkeeper kills you.

Feeling it!

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Don some VR glasses and gloves and talk to the computer and paint entire worlds

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
