Yeah i dont own a gateway cart, and classic mode just stays at a black screen.

Well, try older versions and see if you can find a NAND restore that works. If not, maybe they will fix it with the release. Unfortunately, it could be a bug in the A9LH payload itself, in which case, the new launcher would not help.

I feel your pain. I bricked my Aus N3DS the other night trying something I shouldn't have. I had DS A9LH compiling just fine. No need to try using my own secret sector dump. It was working. Why did I f--- with it? All I can do is move on though. The wires and card reader are on their way.

I dont know, this was a big fucking mistake. I had my 3ds perfect.
Now you have to buy a Gateway, or Hard mod. If you hard mod, THEN your 3DS will be perfect.

EDIT: Did you rename payload_stage2_2.bin to payload_stage2.bin when you used safea9lh installer? Did you happen to rename the original payload_stage2.bin to payload_stage2_2.bin and/or put payload_stage2_3.bin into your a9lh folder when you installed it?

I tried all the older ones 3.0.1 wont even boot the 3ds just turns off

I moved the files over, named either 2_2 or 2_3 to just stage2 and moved it over, moved the arm9loaderhax bin from the safe to root, booted 3ds and did complete update

OK, so I read that the files provided by liomajor, only seem to work on Toshiba NANDs.

So tested this on the only one of my only o3DS system that has a Toshiba NAND, and.... it works!!!

Sucks though, really want to use my Gateway 3DS on my Cosmo Black o3DS which comes with a Samsung NAND. :(

Oh well, just wanted to report this as well~! Hopefully you guys figure out a way to get this working on Samsung NANDs as well. :)

Well, I found another payload. I am in the process of seeing what it does. The installer says it's too big, so I had to copy it manually.

What was on your SD card when you ran the installer? Did you have ONLY payload_stage2.bin in there or was there also a payload_stage2_3.bin? If there was also a payload_stage2_3.bin in the folder, you only need to place the arm9loaderhax.bin from safea9lh installer into \a9lh\arm9loaderhax.bin and run it with the normal payloads by holding X+A when powering on. (or holding B while powering on, if you used the other payload_stage1.bin)

Then you should leave this thread. You can't ever boot into GW mode without owning a GW!

Yeah I also have 2 N3DS XL's here with the 1.21 GB Samsung NAND's and it is doing the red flash then powering off when executing the GW_Stage2.bin

No just stage1 and stage2, so use the arm9loaderbin from the safe one in a9lh? But if i renamed stage2_2 which wants to use the default of launcher.bin how can i load the arm9 payload? You said press B?
I downloaded this one, https://gbatemp.net/attachments/three-stage2-rar.50746/

If you didn't include the payload_stage2_3.bin on your 3ds SD card, then you are screwed. I'd like to say something else, but it would either increase my warning level or get me banned. You didn't follow instructions/recommendations:
1. Extract the rar file to your memorycard!
You can swap stage2 files to switch button combinations, but i suggest to boot \arm9loaderhax.bin by default!

You didn't understand the consequenses, and you had no business ever being in this thread in the first place without owning a GW. I'll leave it at that.

Edit: and it looks like you didn't use the alternate stage 1, so had you included the payload_stage2_3.bin, you would hold X+A while powering on to load a9lh\arm9loaderhax.bin.

Well, trying to boot the payload I found by copying it to 0x0B400000 just gives me a black screen. I can't tell much about it. I only know that 0x0B21F000-0x0B221FFF were all "00" bytes before installing GW A9LH. Those bytes were filled by something when GW A9LH was installed. Hard to say what. I can put it up for people to look at. Keep in mind it may just be encrypted garbage.

We all make mistakes, once you have your hard mod you will be back to reckless hacking before you know it.

Maybe it is the mysterious bricking code. Just kidding, hopefully it will lead to booting on Samsung NANDs.

My N3DS has a Samsung NAND and this doesn't work.

EDIT: My o3ds has a Toshiba NAND and it works!

So, the offset(s) have to be fixed for Samsung NANDs. How do I do that?

I am positive that the NAND manufacturer plays a role in this. My LBW O3DS XL, Aqua O3DS, and my friend's Blue O3DS have Samsung NANDs and they all fail to boot GW. My MM N3DS XL has a Toshiba NAND so GW works fine.

This might be off topic but, you know how you can boot the gateway cia from emunand to get GW mode on Luma's a9lh sysNand? If there was a future update.. Would updating brick me if I had GW mode active?

Actually, it seems this area is only blank when A9LH is not installed. So the differences may very well be why the official GW A9LH didn't brick my system. Unfortunately, it could be encrypted or something. Maybe someone with a hard mod can try copying it to the address I gave or something and see what it does.

You can also load it via MenuHax -- it runs alright from a 9.2 EmuNAND.

But to answer your question, every GW up to 3.7.1 has, to the best of our knowledge, prevented firm0 and firm1 from being updated. The 4.0 alpha does not, so that you can downgrade to 2.1 without bricking. Theoretically, as long as you didn't use 4.0a you should be alright. I'd stick with Luma for updating just to be safe (though Cakes should be fine as well, as long as you've made absolutely certain you've enabled the firmware protection patch).

I've checked your offset with my dump, no this werent 00's before.

I used a non-A9LH NAND dump to install GW A9LH. They were "00" bytes on my pre-A9LH NAND dump. It is filled if you have A9LH. But 2111 bytes are different from the ones Safe A9LH Installer puts there. Just thought it might help.

I tested around and around how to fix your nand, no solution so far
except to upgrade to example 9.9 and to downgrade back to 9.2.

Another solution would be to wait for a fixed launcher.dat with
working region detection to allow again restoring nand.bin.
