So... uhm... I'm letting my nephews play with my 2ds. Problem is they can't read english yet, so they don't even know what update means. Is there a way to get rid of that update screen? I did put it in emunand, but with the current ram issue's on reinand if they pick the wrong game to play, it will pretty much crash and reboot into sysnand.

Just use the tubehax DNS to disable updates.
