Breaking news: it'll be just like every other pokemon game, with some new pokemon

Commence being shocked.
I'll still play it. I've been waiting for a new Pokemon game for a while tbh.
I just hope they fix the issues in X/Y/OR/AS, meaning no noticeable lag and 3D enabled everywhere. Even if those things require a n3DS.

So will I. I play them at launch for a month or two. By the time a new one comes out, it's fun again for another couple months.

Same, except I spent some time IV/Nature breeding in X/Y, but that was way too much effort. I hardly even bother catching the postgame legendaries anymore, it's just the same ones I've caught before.

They usually improve the engine for the second gen on the same console (R/B/Y->G/S/C, D/P/Pt->B/W)
Even though GB and GBC were not really the same console they were part of the same generation and were very similar except for the GBC having color.
It would be unacceptable to keep using the same engine without improving anything, it was bad the first time but with the n3DS they should at least be able to get rid of those issues given the improved specs.

I'm just gonna check that tweet real quick...
OKAY, it's a confirmed statement! Not an inference, not something that we're supposing and hoping, it's actually a statement that doesn't say otherwise!

Man, I'm so glad that we're finally able to see some new information (and hopefully some gameplay footage!). I just find it very odd that they didn't want to show it on the 20th anniversary or in a Direct itself. And it's just weird that this isn't something they want to show at E3. I dunno why Nintendo make these moves, but I'm no specialist in the topic.
Why do I have this funny feeling that something very wrong is gonna happen in this year's E3, in general, not just for Nintendo?

I know, right? A rehash of X/Y/OR/AS with new species and a previously unexplored location with yet another Team Rocket-wannabe group of "villains." "Oh, no, you beat me in battle. I could totally just whoop your ass right now myself, but I'm gonna let you fuck our plans up."

everyone knows Pokémon games are incredibly formulaic but somehow they're still fun

Well, to be fair, that's how you make sequels or future games in a series. You use the same formula, add in some new elements, mechanics, and/or content, and bam! You have the next installment for the series.
Being a big fan of the series, the games always felt entertaining whenever something new arises.

I'm not concerned with the story and all the formulaic things. Gym leaders, elite 4, evil organization, tried and true, hooray. The real meat and potatoes for the games are the new Pokemon, moves, abilities, and the changes in game mechanics. That being said, I'm hoping for 100% nature synchronization, a meatier post-game battling facility, since they'll support RBY transfers, that means a Fissure No Guard Machamp is possible (ability capsule assisted I guess). More like wishful thinking, adopting a hackmon tier, where Pokemon can be hacked with whatever moves and abilities they want, and then compete online. Something less fantastical, HP helping/hindering natures could be added. New Mega Evolutions, new Eveelutions, maybe a new battle style, like a 6 on 6 horde battle. Maybe Inverse Battles will be implemented in more competitive play, online and offline. Customization of characters will return, hopefully a boatload of move tutors, and the return of some like Defog and Sucker Punch. But yeah, those things interest me the most when it comes to new Pokemon games.
