Hacking Ran out of space on SD card during guide...not sure what to do now?

That should be about right if it's an 8gb SD. Am I crazy, or does the stuff in your screen shot not add up to around 6gb?

Do you have a lot of cia games installed on it?

One possibility I suppose is to back up everything on your computer, erase some things to allow enough space to dump your emunand, do that, delete the emunand partition, format the SD, recreate the emunand partition, inject the backed up emunand, and copy everything back. And do all of these things while staying in EmuNand9, unmounting the SD with EmuNand9.

But you should maybe wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to agree. :(

Having not set foot into the actual downgrading territory, this should be fine, and since EmuNAND9 lets you dismount the SD card, it's convenient, too.

Unless of course there's something simple we're all overlooking, haha, but that probably won't be realized until complicated things are done.

Let us know how this works out! I'm curious!

Ooooomg I figured it out. Turns out when you "delete" things on a mac, it makes new folders for trash hidden on the SD card. So I had to just go into the trash bin on my mac and delete all the stuff from there. I have 6GB available now. I can't believe it was that simple.

Thanks for helping me everyone! :) (you guys are super nice and helpful I can't believe how nice people here are)

Just saw this - the exact same thing happened to my dad with his camera sd :D By the way, every OS does this, otherwise it would have to copy deleted items to your hard drive or delete them directly without going to the trash first. Keep you trash clean at all times! :yay3ds:

yeah!!! Lesson learned lol!! I'll be sure to do that A LOT from now on. I can't believe it all accumulated that fast.

AA if anyone is still looking @ this, I ran into a new issue...My emunand is 1.3 GB but my sysnand is 1.98 GB. They both match two different sizes they should on the guide I'm looking at but they're supposed to be the same right???

They should match, yes. How did you determine the sizes? Did you make a minimal dump?

Edit: Maybe it's because OSX reports file sizes differently. Most OS do 1KiB = 1024Byte, OSX does 1KB = 1000Byte.

The guide I'm following says that the sizes for the NAND backups should be 1.979.711.488 bytes or 1.300.234.240 bytes...but my sysnand and emunand are different. They both match these numbers, but not one consistently. My sysnand is 1.979.711.488 bytes exactly and my emunand is 1.300.234.240 bytes. They shouldn't differ being from the same 3ds...right?

Isn't RedNAND a bit smaller than a normal EmuNAND? Coulf it be that?
That might be it...

EDIT:
The guide says this: (Your backups should match one of the sizes on this page; if they do not, you should delete them and make new ones!)

Does it mean one of them, or each should match one??? If its the latter then I should be fine right?

Wait, I remember wondering about this as well. You're fine. The NAND dumps (the *.bin files) must match, not the Emu/RedNAND. It happened to me, too - all went fine. I did 2 N3DS and 4 O3DS.

Also try right clicking on them and doing properties. I know in windows that will show the right size, not sure about osx though

RedNAND will always be the smallest possible size, regardless of the chip manufacturer. The guide asks you to set up a RedNAND, so this is it.

Looking at the sizes, you must have a N3DS with a Toshiba chip, by the way, which explains the difference as well.

Did you (after you deleted the files on the SD card) emty the TRASH?!

ATTENTION the SD card has to be in the Mac ..... so it can delete them on the SD card!

If you have forgotten to put the SD in the Mac an than emty the trash you need an app like
CTRXplorer or GodMode9 on your 3DS and start it.
Then delete ALL folders and files that are beginning with a . (thats a point!)
And you are done :)

We got that solved hours ago. Please try to read the thread before suggesting things that have been solved again. It's even on the same page!
