Hardware Compatible USB 3.0 2.5" drive cases

There's a page on the GBAtemp Wiki with a list of compatible enclosures, but it doesn't seem to have many USB 3.0 enclosures listed. I'm looking into getting some USB 3.0 enclosures for some new HDDs. (The Rosewill RX-81U, which I'm currently using, has been discontinued, so I might as well upgrade to USB 3.0 while I'm at it to improve performance for PC usage.)

Does anyone here have a 2.5" (laptop-size) USB 3.0 enclosure that works with USB Loader GX and Nintendont? I have a couple that I'm going to test out, but would like to know if there's any that are known to work.

The Wii and Wii U are USB 2.0 only, and will not gain any benefits from a USB 3.0 drive.

Admittedly I do have a 3.0 enclosure on mine, but it is powered and has USB ports that I can plug the Gamecube adapter into.

Currently all my other controllers are ins torage, so I popped the drive into an old USB 2.0 enclosure with a y-cable.

I know that both systems are USB 2.0. USB 3.0 still helps for PC-side data management, and for using the drive as general data storage in addition to Wii/GCN.

I did test an Inateck FE2005 (JMS567) and it worked perfectly for HBC, ULGX, and Nintendont. I'm going to be testing a StarTech.com USB 3.0 case soon, so I'll add the results to the compatibility page once I test it.

Just to know, did you use a Y cable for connecting the Inateck FE2005 to the Wii in order for it to always have enough power, or did you connect it with a single USB cable? That case does not have an AC connector in order to make it self-powered, right?

It worked fine without a Y cable on Wii, but not on Wii U. There's no extra connector for an AC adapter on that case.

I'm also using a StarTech.com USB 3.0 drive case that works around the same as the Inateck. No issues running Wii or GCN games, and only requires a Y cable on Wii U.

For the Inateck FE2005 on a Wii, ¿do you use the bundled USB 3 cable (whose micro USB connector is wider than a USB 2 one) or do you use a USB 2 cable with a standard micro USB connector like those on mobile phones (therefore leaving part of connector in the enclosure free)? I ask because I read in GBATemp that some enclosures that did no work properly on a Wii with a USB 3 cable worked fine with a USB 2 one.

USB 3.0 cables have an additional pin on the host side, but it should normally be ignored by USB 2.0 sockets. It could be causing interference, but I'm not going to guess on the likelihood.

I tested three types: a USB 2.0 microUSB, a USB 3.0 microUSB, and a USB 3.0 microUSB Y cable. All three worked fine. (The Y cable is required for Wii U due to power usage, but I also use it on Wii just in case.)
