Its not LITERALLY the same game just very close. Foxi will probably back me up(?) but its like anything that is already (subjectively) good, and sells year after year. Pokemon, CoD, FIFA, are just a few examples that do the same thing. Think about it. Its why you like a certain genre of video game. I like RPGs because they all play somewhat similar. Even closer, are games in the same franchise. Its why you like music in a certain genre, or the same bands music album after album.
To be fair, the N64 and the Gamecube games were the exact same game. :P As far as the series is concerned, I do treat every AC game as "the same game" since there is hardly any story component and the gameplay differences are very minute, so the experience is pretty much the same, but I can't deny that differences do exist. That being said, I wouldn't compare it to CoD or Pokemon since each version of those games does come with a unique story component and weapons/Pokemon, they're just not very innovative in the gameplay aspect.

pffffffff holy shit the hypocrisy is cringe-worthy at this point, like seriously not just a year ago 99% of everyone was like "NINTENDO SUCKS BALLS, THEY SHOULD JUST MAKE MOBILE GAMES" and now they are making mobile games and they're worse for it????

jfc there's just no pleasing some people

You know what... there's a lot of people who use this site. I'm willing to bet that the people who said "Nintendo should make mobile games" were not the same people who are now complaining that Nintendo are making mobile games...

I don't understand why people are split on this matter to begin with - for all intents and purposes they can do both, there isn't a conflict of interests here, quite the opposite in fact. The platform is merely a vehicle to convey a video game, the piece of plastic electronics you play on is completely irrelevant to your experience of the game. It's no secret that gaming consoles are not having an easy time co-existing with smartphones and progressively cheaper PC's, having a secondary outlet for content could rake in audiences that potentially wouldn't have invested in the Nintendo ecosystem otherwise. Say, you play a mobile Mario game and you enjoy it, that's a pretty clear message - "y'like this? How's about you get a 4DSi XL and play an even better Mario game with proper gaming controls, eh?" - hell, their adverts could even be in their mobile games. It's an advertising opportunity that's very targeted and thus effective since the ads will be seen precisely by the target audience who might be interested in such a purchase, unlike ads on YouTube or TV which just float in the aether, often times completely ignored. Not only that, but it's also cheap since it's self-financing due to IAP. It's a big win all across the board and I'm surprised that most big name studios are not taking advantage of the mobile gaming boom - the scene is still dominated by Candy Crush and Clash of Clans, and it could be so much more than that.

Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are pretty much the best franchises they could have picked for this - the only thing that comes to mind that would be even better is Pokemon, and that's more or less happening in the form of Pokemon Go and this game. I won't say I'm excited for this, especially since nothing is known yet, but I'm interested to see what they'll do with it.

Comparing Animal Crossing to games like Pokemon or Call of Duty is just silly. AC has no discernible story, and while there's minor differences with each game, they're too minor to really say it's a different game from the last. At least CoD and Pokemon offer a new story, new locations, new weapons/characters, etc. While I don't care for CoD (as there's far better games), and I haven't played every Pokemon game, I do know they've evolved compared to what they used to be.

Fire Emblem, on the other hand, has remained basically the same gameplay at its core, which is, ironically, how RPGs like this work. Story-wise, it's vastly different every time, and one of the selling points of the games is the character development and dialogue. Though Nintendo has been fucking that up with the latest installments.

Whilst everyone is worried about Nintendo releasing free2play shovelware, I think it could be interesting. Miitomo, despite being popular thanks to a hype train, was actually an original idea, so I'm curious to what they will do with it.

So the mobile virus affected Nintendo as well?
I will still buy their handhelds and play games the way I love to. Buttons and a dedicated game console.
If they ruin consoles, then I will crack the shit out of their mobile games like many people do. Lol

LOVE YOU NINTENDO!
I always wanted to play some AC-like game on my phone but there aren't ANY!! I found many people recommend Harvest Moon for AC-like game but they are totally different because HM's time system pushes me to work restless and always follow the shortest course to save time... The only AC-like game I could play on my phone was Animal Crossing Wild Life through DraStic, which is annoying due to terribly low resolution and touch input delay-which makes fishing almost impossible, not to mention the lack of wireless function which forced me to use cheat codes. Now that Nintendo is officially porting AC to mobile, they would optimize fishing timing for touch input and use awesome New Leaf graphics in high resolution. Touch interface will be almost perfect just by directly porting Wild Life system which I didn't feel much troubling with DraStic.
And unlike DS and 3DS, I can always grab my phone to access the game every day to manage town environments. The only bad thing on porting to mobile is that we can probably no longer meet Mr. Resetti since mobile devices are so unstable compared to handhelds.
And should it be translated into Korean...? New leaf was, so...
I might just grab the game in English if not, but I want to see townspeople name in Korean, which I'm fond of.

According to a tweet by Nintendo of America, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and other titles soon to be announced will land on mobile.

Nintendo of Europe also made a similar tweet just half an hour ago:

Little is known about the upcoming titles but more information on the said titles should resurface in the near future.

I noticed that, pretty much the same day this thread was created, they were deleted. Why would they delete it?
I've seen some people quite pissed at it. They probably thought that Nintendo is gonna move on to the mobile phone market without even considering that this is proably just one of the many games to be released on mobile phones with partnership with DeNa

Why would they think that? There was nothing in that tweet that indicated they would stop console gaming development.
