Something weird..
When I install the encrypted Home menu CIA FBI errors saying it cannot overwrite because it has the same description
Then my 3DS bricks
Maybe I could restore the default home menu then install my custom one instead of installing a custom one over a custom one?

Weird... Delete the actual home menu title and install the new one instead.

Oh come on there's nothing to be afraid of, as long as you have a nand backup. Just do it
I have exactly the same problem.
It says "Title exists. want to delete?"
I confirm. then it tries to install new cia and says "Description: already exists"
The file was deleted however. If I delete it manually beforehand the same thing happens. I always have to restore my NAND backup if I want to change my home menu.

No need to restore the nand backup.
Re-install the clean cia of your homemenu, reboot, and re-install your edited cia
Tried that as well. Doesn't work.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But FBI2 also shows me a different title ID for "Home Menu" and by default I don't even seem to have the 004003....8202.cia

So I tried, and...... It works fine.

0) edit your home menu cia, encrypt it with Decrypt9
1) install the encrypted cia of 3dnus using FBI 2.1.x
2) reboot (your 3ds will crash so you must reboot anyway)
3) install the custom cia encrypted with Decrypt9
4) reboot (your 3ds will also crash after the installation)
5) ?????
6) profit
7) no step seven

do that everytime you want to install a custom cia over another customized cia and it should works. Please try and reply

Or you can go to "delete program" in NAND find CTR-N-HMMP (Home Menu), and then install the encrypted cia, works for me.
