I'm mostly waiting because I need to buy a faster SD reader so it doesn't take FOREVER to copy all my games back. Everything is currently working fine - MenuHax/CakesFW rarely hangs.

I'm also curious what tools GateWay might release. I've GateWay on my o3DS.

If you have a second sd card you can use that to do it so you don't have to back your sd card up.

I have a gateway, and from what I've seen the time spent installing it is longer than the time I lose trying to use Browserhax added up. I'd have to read up on the whole thing, install a9, convert everything, install all the cia's, probably get a bigger SD card because now I can use a microSD for .3DS files and the SD for cias, spend much more time converting and installing future roms... it's not even worth it.

Yea, that's really smart thinking :)

Now I just need to figure out how to transfer my savegames from o3DS Gateway --> n3DS CFW cia

That's actually pretty easy. There's a website with a list of serials of games and you use savedatafiler to then extract the save games from it. On the SD card you'll finder a filer folder and you'll be able to find all the extracted save games in there.

I'm sick of the Menuhax bootrate (though I guess I'll be fine, I can bear it) and I'd like to give A9LH a shot, but I'm really scared. I have some questions.

1. Do you keep ALL the games, saves and all? I know I can backup the saves, but I'm worried about the games.
2. How many steps with brick risk are there? Only the downgrade to 2.1 or something else too?
3. Can Nintendo do something to block the exploit? If that's the case, is it likely they'll do it? Could it affect to the people who already have A9LH?
4. Approximately which is the percentage of brick risk if you follow all the steps correctly in an old 3DS? I can't afford another 3DS and I'm scared.
5. I already have an emuNAND with Luma3DS so I think I could start with the part 4 of the guide, but I saw in previous parts that you need some slot keys and I only have slot0x25KeyX. Are those necessary even if I already have an emuNAND set up?

I think that's all. Thanks.

1. Yes.

2. Several, although if you follow instructions as written, that risk is reduced to almost zero.

3. In theory, yes. They could push something that does a wholesale overwrite of NAND. Is this likely? Not at all....

4.hard to say exactly. My best guess is probably under 2 percent, if you follow the guide exactly. Nearly every brick that happens with current tools is outright user error.

5.yes they are, although iirc, they are linked in the guide...

It's a combination of:

1. I haven't been playing my 3DS as much lately
2. I am lazy as hell
3. I am waiting on Gateway.

1. Yes you keep everything.

2. The downgrading and nand flashing have brick risks. The downgrading is done on emunand so in reality its brick risk is 0. The nand flashing carries an extremely small chance, something would have to be wrong with the dump(the tools check them first so it shouldn't happen), or the tool fucks up somehow(not likely to happen).

3. There isn't really anything they can do to stop it. For them to stop it and screw people who already have it they would have to exploit the code which they wouldn't do(it would make it easy to hack)

4. At this point with the guide the brick risk is fairly non existent if you follow the guide. All the bricks are from user error. People see something and go ill skip that and they brick. Things that are safe to skip are the first 3 parts if you already have an emunand, sysnand backup only if you already have one(example: from when you first downgraded to 9.2), and backing up your sd only if you use a second sd card.

5. You can start at part 4 if you already have an emunand. As for the slotkeys the guide links to them.

I installed it yesterday and it took me like 3 or 4 hours, but i guess it was worth it since rxtools (what i had) is dead.

1.- I don't want to risk my 3DS, at least not before playing some games

2.- My SD is not big enough to do the necessary backups of both sysNAND/emuNAND + i haven't played some games due to little free space. I'm waiting to get an 16GB or 32GB SD.

You could backup one, take it off, then backup the other.

That's the funny thing. Even without apps or almost nothing special installed on the emuNAND, i will have 700mb of free space, being the rest the emuNAND partition and the files for the MenuHax.

For anyone on the fence about doing this, like I was, let me guide you through my experience. I had some free time yesterday and decided that I would give it a try. I was extremely nervous because I didn't want to screw the system that I play the most currently. So, I asked questions and began the journey knowing basically nothing about what it would actually do for me. I already had EmuNand 10.7 which helped the process out tremendously I found out. Once I started, the first thing I discovered was that there were numerous users here that were willing to take the time to help me out and hold my hand through the process. Knowing that there were people out there made me relax a lot more. I knew that if I came to a step in the tutorial that I wasn't sure about, I could ask them about it before proceeding. Which leads me to the second thing I noticed. The tutorial is extremely well written. If you haven't read it, it starts you off with everything you need with download links and preparation work for the SD card. It was fantastic. Not once did I have to dig through the Internet to find something I needed. It also makes you 100% sure that you have plenty of NAND backups in case something does go off kilter. The third thing I noticed was that it took me a lot longer to do than I originally thought it would. It took me all day to do. Now, that being said, I have kids and I also stopped to do some work outside so that did take a decent chunk out of this but it still took a long time. This was my first time doing this so I made sure to read everything 2 and sometimes 3 times to make absolutely sure that I didn't screw something up. If you are like me and this will be your first time, be sure that you have a solid chunk of your day devoted solely to doing this because I did forget where I was at times and had to retrace my steps. Last, but not least, the final product. It is fantastic!! If you follow all of the steps in the tutorial, you will turn on your 3ds and you will boot directly to what your Emunand was. I didn't know it would do this so it was a huge shock to me. I was on a 2ds with sysnand 6.0 and using rxtools 2.6 to boot to my EmuNand. I had to turn on my 2ds,go to the Internet, load a bookmark, launch rxtools Dat, hold R, wait for it to load, and finally, get to my EmuNand. That sucked. Now, all I do is press the power button. Also, DSIware and GBA games require only one installation so you aren't wasting valuable card space. I am extremely happy that I decided to take the time to do this. Trust me, if I can do it, you can too! It is well worth the time and effort needed if you enjoy the 3ds as much as I do. You'll have plenty of help and you won't lose anything if you previously had EmuNand like me. If you want to do this but aren't sure if you could do it, you can.

So, in the past couple of days? I've successfully installed A9LH on two systems. One was a Japanese Non XL on 9.7 and 10.7 (i dun goofed on update). Downgrade successful on the first try and no bricks throughout. The other was a Hyrule Edition XL on 9.9. Downgrade first try, and no bricks throughout. It is fool proof. Just read the guide and follow exactly as it says.
