Hardware Why can't the Z buttons be remapped on New 3DS?

Basically, the games that allow button remapping don't allow you to remap the ZR and ZL buttons. The C-Stick cannot be remapped either, and there seem to be no plans from the developpers to add support which leads me to think that it cannot actually be done at all.

Is there some specific reason for this? (I mean is it something hardware-related or similar?).

On which games?

Those for O3DS plainly have no access to them, unless they support the circle pad pro...

In dual-modes or those for N3DS like SSB4 it's just laziness of the developer!

SSB4 and Hyrule Warriors Legends are two games I'm aware have customizable controls and also work in dual mode. Thing is, none of the two display the extra buttons as customizable when playing on the N3DS.

I doubt it's just plain laziness, since I'm pretty sure displaying a couple extra buttons on a menu isn't much work. I suspect it has to do with the fact that the extra buttons are detected as a peripheral (a Circle Pad Pro which is permanently connected) rather than an integral part of the console.

Smash uses the new buttons directly through the HID driver (in fact it doesn't support the external circle pad), and honestly seeing the "customization" for the configurable buttons (you can just swap some -which would not work fine with a variable amount of buttons-, not freely redefine them from a list of actions like on Brawl) yes, it still screams laziness!

Metal Gear Solid would also benefit from the c-stick. Too bad there is no way as of now.

Snake Eater 3D? It already supports the C-stick. Just enable the Circle Pad Pro option, and the C-stick will act as the right stick on the CPP.

Because games that weren't programmed to make use of the extra buttons just can't use them. Its as simple as that.

Oh. I didn't know that. I thought it would be activated by default like in MH. Thanks anyway :)

No, not that.

As already mentioned in the thread, one of such games in question, Smash Bros, doesn't support the CPP peripheral at all, and only supports those functions on New models.
CPP requires an extra driver. There's barely enough memory on O3DS to run smash as it is. That's why it doesn't support CPP. Run any game that supports CPP from before N3DS was released. They will ALL say that CPP was detected.
