if you're lucky the console might be firmware 9.0 or 9.2, you might not even need to downgrade.

it's also worth noting that downgrading is no harder than installing cfw, in terms of difficulty it simply adds another step to the process.

If I am going to buy a 3DS XL is the newest one the best one? I feel like if i get a IPS screen on an old one It would be about the same.. is that right? Or should I just pick up a new one and downgrade it?

overall the newest one is the best one. other than an easily accessed sd card and a better shape (imo) with the old xl, the new xl is pretty much better in every way. there are lots of comparisons everywhere, google it!

the old xl has no chance of being ips, the new one has a chance but it is not guaranteed.

as far as i'm aware the new xl shipped with 9.0 and 9.2 firmware, whether or not new stock is the same i can't say, i assume the old xl will have older firmware (<9.0). upgrading is potentially easier because there are more entry points

Personally, a lot of people I know have been buying and selling the "new" version of the 3DS. I ended up getting an old XL version (because as much as I like LoZ, I do not like the hyrule crest on the Hyrule edition one, and the Majora's Mask one just is ridiculously expensive)...to upgrade my tiny old 3DS. I've played with the new system and I don't like the design much, especially with the hidden SD card - no, Nintendo, don't follow Apple's lead..that's not right!

I need help with my new3DS (10.7ofw EUR): I'm looking to get A9LH running with cfw but I'm stuck at the 9.2.0 downgrade part.

What I have/useful infos:
* new3DS with 10.7.0-32E (Sysnand only, I don't have Emunand or anything like that)
* the console was transferred from an old3DS XL (which was transferred from an old3DS)
* Cubic Ninja with Ninjhax (I'm on 10.7)

What I miss:
* hardmod (or the will/skills to make it)
* Emunand/RedNand
* Sysnand backup
* another 3DS (hacked or not)
* Gateway & co.

My goal:
* A9LH
* Luma3DS

At the moment when I downgrade the console to 9.2.0 with PlaiSysUpdater the process complete successfully (everything GOOD and go on till the reboot part) but on reboot the console gives me an error (not my screen, but same error) with or without SD inserted and the only way to get it back to work is through Recovery.
I don't want to format the console because I have a lot of stats, saves, bought games etc on it.
Any help please?

This problem was faced by many n3ds users, and formatting seems like the only goddamn option.

Any hint on how to proceed safely with the format in order to keep most of the stuff (or at least everything possible to save)? I know I can export saves with an homebrew, and I should be able to download again the eShop titles. How about NNID? Should I remove it from the n3DS before the format?

You can backup saves with svdt, And yes don't delete NNID.

Ok, last question: should then I proceed like this?

1) Backup saves with svdt
2) Tinyformat the system
3) Downgrade, A9LH, Luma3DS ecc
4) Reconfigure everything, readd NNID ecc and restore saves

Or should part 3 and 4 be inverted?

Do you guys think 250$ is fair for a 9.2 version new 3ds XL? Maybe Im just being a wuss but I have a lot of anxiety about this process XD. And I am sorry if this is not the place to ask this question!!

My other question is: Assuming I end up either downgrading, or buying a 9.2, what is the best way to keep it from updating. I saw this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonQRCodes/comments/2y120p/block_3ds_from_receiving_wifi_update/

But this guide doesnt seem to protect vs outside internet sources..

If I get a new 3ds, and I turn off wifi and spotpass, will it still download updates (with internet that isnt mine)? Is there some more permanent way to mod the 3ds to NEVER update? I really dont want it to update and lock me out of my dstwo plus :C

No it's not fair. Just downgrade and save some money. After downgrading, install emuNAND and update to 10.7. Bada-bing, no update nag. If you're really paranoid, either get a9lh or turn WiFi off. That way no update is downloaded while in sleep mode.

i was under the impression if i updated i couldnt use my dstwo plus card. is that not the case if you get emunand?

another question i have: what is the biggest micro sd card i can get to expand my 3ds' memory? nintendo says 32gb but i have heard if you hack it you can use more.

You just have to format the SD card into a FAT32 format/system. It's easy and you just need guiformat or even to do it with the EMUNAND9 utility.

so will like taking off those files off my 3ds sd card and putting them back on my sd card when im done downgrading will restore my memory?

I have another question regarding my impossible-to-downgrade new3DS: what if I downgrade from 10.7 to 10.3 and then from there to 9.2?
